Hey, we're living in the golden age of content. Maybe I'll go back to MQ at some point. We have nothing but time, after all.
This is very true. We were having this conversation with friends a couple of nights ago and and we as a group went from Channel 2, 5, 7, 9, and 11 (Chicagoland) with the "bonus" of a half dozen UHF channels of varying signal strength to an almost unlimited variety of content with the advent of cable and streaming choices.
It's incredible what is available nowadays. I'm enjoying this era of television.
As far as Mythic Quest goes I totally respect your opinion but I never really noticed the similarities to the Office. (I can be a bit dense at times, though.)
One of the things I really enjoyed about it was the peek into how dysfunctional the industry on the whole is. Over the years I've read about some of the things that employees deal with daily, how players react to change, the portion of the money made in video games in relation to movies, sports, television, and other pieces of the entertainment industry, Youtube gamer critics, etc.
They've taken a few real life issues pertinent to video games in general and expanded on them. I kind of viewed the show as a sort of running commentary on such things.
But the part of that show that really made this an experience for me was the occasional departure from the main storyline to focus on individual characters and their very human history and how they got to be where they are in the story. And how they were important to the game's history.
In particular I loved the episode that started off with a very young C.W. (F. Murray Abraham's character) and his dreams of being a great fantasy writer.
It was touching and gave me an insight into the character before Mythic Quest while never coming back to the present day. It was like a different show altogether.
There were other episodes that did similar things with characters that would never appear in the show that were also important to the story's history.
There is a lot going on that is not that subtle but there is a lot of wonderful things that are woven into the show as a whole. In my opinion, anyway. Maybe I'm easily impressed.
I am not a big fan of MMOs and the like, but I have adored video games for nearly 50 years and am constantly amazed at how far we've come with them.
Which makes the way the show came about an even cooler thing.

We're overdue for Wizkids to make Joe on the Lawmaster and other 2000AD characters.

How the heck do we live in a world where there are not one but TWO good Sonic the Hedgehog movies? I mean seriously, both Sonic movies are fun, funny, and gloriously nostalgic. Jim Carrey is at his Jim Carriest, Ben Schwartz provides exactly the right vocal performance for Sonic, and Idris Elba somehow demonstrates that his casting wasn’t just a big name slumming it for a dumb kids’ movie.
Bring on Sonic 3. I’m ready.

And they managed to include a passable Dragon Ball Z cameo!

It’s just crazy to me that both because still to this day by and large video game movies are terrible (for every Sonic and Detective Pikachu, you’ve got basically a whole genre of “crappy Capcom movies starring Mila Jovovich), and that Sonic himself still has a very spotty track record of game quality, that both of his movies are as good as they are. Not to mention the pre-release controversy that first Sonic movie generated.
Like I watched the first Sonic on a whim on Hulu way back when and was utterly delighted. And I watched Sonic 2 today with the kiddo and it was an even better experience. Heck, even Ugly Sonic’s appearance in Chip ‘n Dale is delightful.

Sir. While you and I may agree on most things, I will not stand idly by while the perfection that is Milla Jovovich and her RE movies are called into question.
Good day sir.
I said good day!

This week we finished Reboot, a cute little one-season show on Hulu from the creators of Modern Family. It follows an 80's sitcom coming back for a reunion show. Great cast, well done.
And Mammals, a weird James Corden vehicle. It's a dark comedy surrounding a married couple where Corden's character-in the space of under a day-meets Tom Jones, suffers a miscarriage with his wife, and finds out she's cheating on him. The ending monologue is insane. It feels like it was written by the most boring person possible, and then turns the entire show on its head. Amazon prime.

Jovovich RE's were the kind of movie that I couldn't bring myself to even finish watching. I just... I couldn't do it. You know how sometimes you can just tell it's never getting any better within the first half hour? That was my experience with those movies.
Didn't even bother with Monster Hunter because ugh. Just plain no.
I feel like it's only a matter of time before Paul W. S. Anderson convinces Capcom to cast his wife as Mega Man.

It struck me that aside from a Disney special (GotG) I hadn't watched a Christmas film this season. In honor of the publication of Spare, I decided to rewatch A Lion in Winter, a film I hadn't seen in 35 years. A crude description of the plot is that this is about a political succession crisis faced by two titans of 12th century Europe; it is a great vehicle for some epic performances. It still holds up.
I had three hours to kill, so I watch Martin Scorsese's Wolf of Wall Street. I wasn't that impressed, as I have seen both Goodfellas and Casino. I choose to imagine that there were three hours of actual story that never made it to film.
