Treated myself to Cocaine Bear tonight. It's...glorious. Banks understood the assignment, and everyone does a hell of a job channeling that late '70s/early 80's animal attack movie.

Last night I watched the “Final Transmission” episode of Documentary Now!, a parody of “Stop Making Sense”, but presented the final concert of a band called “Test Pattern”, and boy is this one kinda brutal to David Byrne. Fred Armisen’s parody of Byrne is obnoxiously artsy-fartsy, rules the band with a tyrannical grip, not only monopolizing almost all of the creative output, but openly scoffing in-concert against any songs his band mates contribute. It becomes clear that the band is only breaking up because he wants it to, not that anybody else in the band is ready to call it quits.

Finally watched Spider-Verse with my oldest, whom I had to carry out of the theater in tears after I tried to take them to it when it came out. Still maybe the best Spider movie.

Definitely the best Spider-Movie. But honestly, I think we're kinda lucky that overall the Spider-Man movies have been good. Sure, you've got your stinkers like Spider-Man 3 and Amazing 2, but overall, Spidey's had a pretty good cinematic track record.

How did it go over this time?

Watched the Oscars last night. I’m actually a bit of a sucker for award shows. Too many jokes at Rock and Smith’s expense, but a good show otherwise. And a ton of emotional wins for EEAO. Ke Huy Quan’s speech could have ended the show there and then it was so good. Almost all the right people won, but even when they didn’t it felt more like it was an impossible choice rather than a snub.

Finally saw Quantumania, and as I've said elsewhere, I recognize that this is not the best MCU movie. I recognize that it's very surface-level, doesn't really have much of anything to say, and that much of the enjoyment depends on Scott Lang's charm and just how great of a villain Kang the Conqueror is (and boy howdy does Jonathan Majors bring it).
This movie was enough for me. I didn't demand any more of it than what it offered, and I had a very fun time. And I'm very excited for what this movie leads to. Bring on the Kangs. Bring them all on.

I finished up all 4 season of The Good Place, I remain very satisfied with this show.
I watched Netflix' Cunk on Earth, which is a 5-part quasi-mockumentary, where the mocking is done of academics by way of an Ali G-like performance. I thought the 4th episode was the best, and I'd recommend watching that one if you want a taste of the show. There is no reason to start with the first episode... I wasn't sure I was going to stick with it after that episode.
I've also started History of the World Part II. I think I'll keep watching this just for Wanda Sykes. It's not bad, but I did fall asleep during the second episode.
Then there are the Popeye the Sailor B&W cartoons. I watched the first 60 of these early in the pandemic; now I am getting around to watch the rest. I'm in 1938 and the B&W should go through the WWII era.
Oh, man, my wife and I went through Cunk on Earth as well, and we both ended up hurting from laughter. Somehow, that one joke that got repeated in every single episode remained funny each time it showed up.

I think I saw Sunshine (2007) at some point, but I'd largely forgotten it, so I revisited and that is a really good movie. Apparently it's well-regarded for 2/3 in case you're not sure about the whole experience maybe you check out at that point. You'll probably know when that turning point arrives.
It was covered on Blank Check pod this week and I'm glad I gave it another look. It definitely feels like this is what got Chris Evans the shot at Cap given most of his work before this was sillier.

Someone made a Cunk on Arrakis meme featuring that joke, and how it made it impossible to walk without rhythm. She's so funny.

Saw the Captain Marvel movie they called SHAZAM! 2 or something.
Lucy Liu and to a greater extent Helen Mirren stole the show. The rest of the film is standard post Zack Snyder DCU fare. Somewhere above Okay and just short of good.
Also saw Scream 6 with my daughter. It was exactly what you'd expect. Not great. Not terrible - although they have a few unlikeable characters. Luckily the main two sisters can carry the franchise forward.
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.
