FightsWithFriends: armor vs. Avengers

*this match was vs. StinkBob NoPants*
I won the last match so he chose the format:
simple enough. I decided to break outta my shell and do a few things that I don't normally do when playing a team:
my team
armor
SOG013 Batman
25 Fortitude
160 D10A020 Lex Luthor
25 Fortitude
125 ASM056 Iron Spider
5 Secret Avengers ata
221 IM3010 Iron Man Mk 15
5 Secret Avengers ata
12 Eye of Agamotto
706
his team:
Avengers
100 ASM001B Spider-Man
3 Avengers Response Unit
134 Dr. Voodoo
50 CW206 Masque
142 SI016 Hercules
92 AV024 Black Panther
40 Infinity Gauntlet (Complete)
145 CW210 Wonder Man
706
while I was assembling this team I knew I was taking my chances. at 700 pts, 4 figures with only 2 indomitable is a mistake but I thought I had enough things going on for me that I'd be alright:
3 flyers (2 who can actually be carried) with a whole ton of improved movement seemed good.
Lex Luthor being able to wildcard Mystics, Batman Ally or Avengers Initiative sure seemed alright, and with the right placement of him could be pretty awesome.
those with the other combos of powers within these guys just seemed pretty sweet. like I said: wasn't super-confident about this team but it was stuff I wanted to try and I had been meaning to use Lex Luthor again since his 1st and only appearance where he rolled a crit miss on his first attack (yes, he was in 'time-out').
well, when I saw his team I knew I was in trouble. 6 guys and one with the gauntlet... ugh. oh well: I suppose Black Panther will be the first target and we'll see where it goes from there.
I win initiative. I pick the Madripoor map.
(note: this is one of the maps I've owned the longest and I've either never won on it or won on it once. poor planning on my part again ). my friends and i amended the rules on his map awhile ago so that the buildings that are only blocking terrain are elevated instead and that the signs on the buildings are walls.
my starting area was on the old wooden ship i've named 'Diversity' (10 pts if you get the reference). within the first few turns I have missed at pickin up the Eye of Agamotto and I'm setting up my team on the roof of the Princess Bar. his team (namely Black Panther w/gauntlet) are right outside the front of the bar. I plan my next turn as this:
1. Iron Spider will running shot the sign/wall, dropping hindering on the roof as well as the lower spot in front of the bar that the stealthy Black Panther is occupying. I will have Iron Man carry Batman up to the roof to join comrades.
2. my opponent will be confused as to why I would do such a thing, but since Panther is now in stealth he will not perplex up T'Challa's defense.
3. back to me, where I use use Lex to wildcard Avengers Initiative team ability, use his special to phasing/teleport over to the hole Iron Spider made, P/PB a Tough but unaware Black Panther, THEN wildcard the Batman Ally ta so that no one can shoot me.
sure enough, this worked dandy. but a few turns later I've weakened his Herc but Herc and Wonder Man have teamed up on my Iron Man who thought he could charge down and start doing damage (maybe he was tying up... idk, I don't think I thought that out well). my main goal is to take out T'Challa still cuz now he's that much closer to death: he does have Super Senses, but hopefully with a few guys to attack him I can be through that and take out the gauntlet-wielder. Lex does the same attack but moves onto the ground (still in hindering) to get a shot at Black Panther.
critical miss
ok, pretty weird that in 2 games Lex Luthor had rolled 2 crit misses but whatever... $%*] happens. I'll running shot with Iron Spider...
crit miss
now I'm not a giver-upper when it comes to this game cuz lots of things can happen, but I pretty much knew that unless he rolled the same as me, I was pretty screwed. I mean, most of my guys were on the ground cuz once I hit Panther they were all gonna go down next, but that's not what happened.
no no no... of course after somebody else dealt Lex some more damage he was perfectly softened up for Black Panther to land the killing blow with the Soul gem in effect, meaning when Lex was ko'ed, T'Challa healed 3 clix. BIG ugh. at this point I have managed to ko Herc, but the rest of his team are pretty much untouched, I'm all but perfectly set-up for massive attacks from my oponent AND Black Panther is ever-so-close to attaining god-hood.
I can't remember how exactly it went, but my team was whittled down to Iron Spider vs. the world.
yup: I went down while most of his guys never left their first click.
it was a good game, leaving me with a few revelations:
1. it's a lot easier/more fun playing with wild card strategies when you're not building a theme team which is constantly pigeon-holing your options
2. my daughter and I have a long way to go to figure out how to get any use out of her Iron Spider chase (although in his defense he did survive the longest)
3. as much as I love owning the yins and yangs, DC 10th Lex Luthor has one last chance to prove his worth and escape the chopping block. I'm gonna build one more team including him and if ANYONE rolls a crit miss, it's off to the trading forums you go!
this is what he should be like
... but this is the Luthor I've been getting

simple enough. I decided to break outta my shell and do a few things that I don't normally do when playing a team:
- not play a named theme team
- play a generic theme team (a big stretch, I know haha)
- use as many figures that I've never/rarely used as possible
