When it is showing on the dial, that figure may choose to take knock-back from a successful attack.
Now after taking the damage from the attack, if CR is showing on the dial then any damage taken from the knockback (hitting a wall or knocked off a building) is reduced to 0.
Hope that makes some sense.
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.

This interpretation does not follow the rule...........
The rule states:
Combat Reflexes :
This character suffers knockback from any attack from which it takes damage. The knockback damage dealt to this character is reduced to 0.
One of the benefits of CR is that any knockback damage is reduced to 0 for the attack that caused CR to kick in. If we go by Tyro Clix's interpretation....after you receive the damage...you would turn your dial the number of damage you received and if CR was visible...then you would take 0. This would mean that anyone who has CR on their first or second dial would never really get any benefit from CR.
This is a rule that in my opinion needs some serious FAQ clarification.
Oh, and the benefit of having it on your first click is that if you're attacked by someone you don't want to be that close to, you can optionally take knockback and be further from them.
Basically, here's how an attack would go against someone who is currently showing CR:
- Attack Roll is made
- If successful and doubles were not rolled, defending player determines whether or not they want to take KB
-If no:
- Damage is dealt as normal and the attack ends.
-If yes:
- Normal damage is dealt to the defender.
- Defender takes appropriate knockback (assuming charge is not now present on the dial).
- If the the Knockback causes the defender to fall off a building or slam into a building, they take appropriate damage unless Combat Refelexes is now present on the dial.
Well, what I mean is that it should be printed in the official HC FAQ. It can be derived using the rules for how combat works, but it's been asked enough times that I think an actual FAQ clarification is in order. =)
