can a grounded fig perform a ranged attack on an elevated if it is on a perfect diagonal?

If the LOF passes through the corner of the square the elevated fig is standing in, then the LOF is good.

Yes. So what Bloodsword said is true as the more defined rule. Because there is a perfect diagonal the only thick black line that LOF crosses will be the square the target is in.
