While we are getting the umpteenth version of Superman and Batman, there are still oh so many more or less popular characters out there that are still waiting impatiently for their Heroclix debut. In this edition of Unclixed, it's Stargirl's nemesis, Shiv!
You know how superheroes will sometimes pass the torch of their identity to someone young as originals get older and older? Or at least bring a relative or person they're mentoring in? Villains can sometime do the same thing. Take for example The Dragon King. Operated in WWII and fought the Justice Society and the All-Star Squadron! But eventually, he gets older and has a family in the form of his daughter Cindy. At some point, Cindy decided to get in the family business and became a super-villain.
Cindy would move to Blue Valley and become the archenemy of their resident heroes, Stargirl and S.T.R.I.P.E. Cindy would also end up getting recruited into the Johnny Sorrow led iteration of the Injustice Society. She hasn't really been active since, but to be fair, the timeline she was a part of got rebooted a couple times and the JSA and their history was shunted into comic limbo.
Why clix her? Mainly because on the CW series Stargirl, Shiv is one of the main villains. Plus we have about five versions of Stargirl but not one figure of her enemy?
Who would she play with? Injustice Society. Martial Artist. Teen also if we can dredge that keyword back up.
What would her dial look like? A lot of melee based powers. Charge, Blades, Flurry, Exploit Weakness, CCE. Those givens.
What would your idea of a dial for Shiv look like, folks? Feel free to reply as that's it for this edition of Unclixed! Be here next week for an all new Comic Accurate! And in two weeks, we spotlight someone else!
Greatly enjoying the CW Stargirl series. If we took all of the DC CW shows and put their in a set, they could fill a whole set. Arrow, Flash, Legends, Supergirl, Black Lightning, Stargirl, Swamp Thing ... maybe Titans and Doom Patrol.
Anyway, back to Stargirl. Greatly enjoying the show. I would focus on the cast of season 1. The core team of young heroes - Stargirl, Wildcat, Dr Midnight, Hourman. Brainwave Jr - give him a costume from the comics as he did not wear one in the show. Shiv of course. STRIPE. Icicle. Sportsmaster. Tigress. Shining Knight. Dragon King. Brainwave (Sr). Gambler. Wizard was there, but did not do much.
Season 2 has brought us more cast members, but I will not list them to avoid spoilers for those who are not there yet.
Many of these characters could be subbed in, Iceman for Icicle, Elektra for Tigress, but it would be nice to have the actual characters in the game.
Most Wanted:DC Super Friends - El Dorado, Rima.
Finish the classic Legion of Super-Heroes - Light(ning) Lass, Ferro Lad, Chemical King, Quizlet.
Stargirl and Titans have done several smart (IMO) things for TV shows based on comic characters. The smartest is to (from day 1) treat these shows as existing in a universe with costumed superheroes. Not only has this avoided the spilling of endless amounts of narrative ink, but it lets the shows get right into action set pieces that actually channel classic comic books. And yet somehow, I find myself actually interested in these characters... as opposed to so much of the rest of the greater Berlanti-verse.
I grok why Arrow took the path it did, but at some point it needed to make a choice between fully engaged with a comic book universe or not... and I don't think it ever really decided and suffered as a result. Flash was at its best when it was focused on pure comics, but there is an unhealthy obsession with the writing team to keep cranking up the stakes.
Doom Patrol is its own wonderfully weird show, but I watch and enjoy it for different reasons. Legends of Tomorrow is clearly just doing its own thing, and having a blast. It looks like Black Lightning went ape-#### at the end, but they lost me half-way through season 2. Similarly, Supergirl and Batwoman made some odd choices along with the melodrama that had me disengage. I enjoyed Swamp Thing, it's too bad that it was smothered in its crib.
Assuming that Shiv has been the recipient of some genetic engineering/tampering from daddy, some sort of regeneration trait or power seems in order. Maybe a click of regen after clearing or something.
And her attempts at mental manipulation and bullying of folks could be made into a decent special power that addresses this negative style of leadership. Maybe characters less points than her on her team give up a click of life to increase (some/all?) her combat values by 1. Or Shiv can use perplex on any characters within 4 squares. Her crazy angry rages and self doubt could also be more than just a couple rando battle fury clicks...maybe she takes an extra token when she rolls less than a 4 on an attack roll or something. She hates not being in control or failing.
And my god, the actor playing Shiv on Stargirl is just stunning, and does a great job with that character. I'd join her little club.

You've given me an idea for a dial Shiv
