In the forthcoming new rules (as at Feb 2023), how many items can be equipped ?
Hello again, all.
SO - Under the forthcoming new rules, with all items being assigned at the start of the game, how many IN TOTAL can you assign ?
Obviously, equipment which a character's card says they can be equipped with, for free or at a small points cost, does not count against any equipment limit. (for example, an XoS team might all have Swords equipped at game start).
Then (assumedly) you would also be able to place 3 items down on the board to be picked up (instead of your light / heavy objects).
THEN, there are certain characters who can be equipped with more than one item at a time - so can you add MORE than 3 further items to your force to take account of this ?
I'm dyslexic, remember, so while this MAY be covered in Wizkids various posts, I can't find it ! (We have a tournament coming up where the "new equipment rules" will be being used. Of course, I could ask the Judge on the day, but, in terms of team building, that would be a little late !

The rules for equipment is already in effect - for I think about a month.
You can equip as much equipment as you can legally pay for, following the standard rule of 1 piece of equipment per character (and equipment is unique).
On the map, you can place standard objects.
Once Spider-Man comes out, you will be able to place hindering terrain markers, water terrain markers, blocking terrain markers and eventually elevated terrain markers in edition to your object terrain at a maximum of 3 (standard rules).
I'm sure there are plenty or will be plenty of exceptions, but that is the gist of the changes.
Re :- the above :- does that mean that a Lantern with the appropriate colour ring cannot be equipped with another object ? (-which seems counter-intuitive-)
AND :- as regards Larfleeze, one of my players at our Venue is suggesting that, as Larfleeze can hold any number of objects, he can be equipped with several at game start. Which does make sense for Larfleeze, but does his spec. power over-rule the one object per character thing ?
AND :- is it now an actual rule that we cannot place an item on the map in the place of a Red/Yellow object ?

Not meaning this as disrespectful, but all of these questions can be answered by reading the 2022 Comprehensive Rules Update released by Wizkids. Or this forum, since these same questions seem to be posted several times.

A lantern may be assigned a differently colored ring, but they would have to pay the points to assign it (10 points at the moment). They also would not be able to have their normally colored ring assigned at the same time.

Larfleeze can only have one equipment assigned to it at the start of the game. If he has other means to equip more objects to him during the game (Orange ring, for instance) then he may equip more than one object. It's in 2022 rules update under section 25.2b Assigning Equipment.

Same rules update, section 25.2a "Equipment does not begin the game on the map.
"
SO - let's say you have Larfleeze with the Orange Ring. Then you have 3 other characters on the team, who are equipped at game start with other Items (lets say, Cap's Shield; Tesseract; and Necrosword...). Larfleeze' 3 allies then drop their equipped items. Larfleeze then picks the items up - and then equips them, as he can.
Does that work, and if not, why not ?

I think it has been a long time, but equipped characters cannot simply "choose to unequip" items. Right or wrong: This was my grief about the Earth X Venom+Symbiote not being able to make the Symbiote quickly available to another teammate.
(...carried on from my previous post...)
One means of unequipping seems to be sending a character to the sideline by some means, and then the item is unequipped and on the ground... however, this is hardly a common or easily useable mechanic.
Still uncertain if characters can just "drop" an equipped object if they wish. I certainly think they SHOULD be able to !
Also characters like Larfleeze, who CAN equip as many items as he wishes in-game, (or those characters that can have 2 at once), ought to be able to START with more than 1 item.
In any event. CAN a character drop an item that was equipped to them at the start of the game (as per the new rules); AND if a character with an item is KO'd, does the item THEN drop ?

Aside from equipping another item, being KOed is IIRC the ONLY way a character can DROP an equipped item without relying on some other specific game effect found on a character card.
Once again, the answers to your questions are literally in the rules update I linked. It only takes a minute to read them. See section 25.2d to see how equipment can be unequipped.
