This issue was so brilliant that when I finished reading it I fell to my knees and wept. This is what all other Superman stories wish they could be. It was fun and awesome and good.
Did anyone else get it?
"You asked for help. That was all that mattered." - Superman, Action Comics #786
I got it an enjoyed it, though I wasn't quite moved to tears. It had some of that old Superman charm with a snotty Jimmy Olsen and Clark acting like a clutz for Lois, that little revelation killed a little of it for me. The rest was interesting enough though I'd like to see where it goes.
I will say this, I'm very thankful it wasn't anything like All-Star Batman and Robin quality wise.
I enjoyed it very much. I think this ranks with Quietly's WE3 work as his best-to-date. I can only hope he's as committed to 12 issues as I am. I really hate when he and Morrison team-up only to have some fill-in artist do alot of the stories( a la X-Men).
I like this one much better than the All-Star Batman, but I like it too. Did they ever define what the continuity would be for the All-Star Supes title? With the Batman title, you can tell it's brand new continuity, but with this supes I have no idea. It seems like it may just be a self contained tale, with continuity all to itself, but I haven't seen it explained that, or any other, way.
It certainly doesn't matter to me, as long as the next 11 issues are this good. But I was just wondering if anyone had read anything definite on where DC stands on the matter.
The All Star titles are supposed to be totally outside of mainstream continuity. Basically, the intent was to give the author their own sandbox in which to do whatever they want with the character.
That being said, I really enjoyed All Star Superman #1, but where are my Bizarros? I was promised Bizarros. Lots of Bizarros.
If I don't receive my Bizarros soon, will shake my fist in the air, make ineffectual threats, and continue buying the stupid book until there are Bizarros. Take that, Grant!

Then worry not! The Bizarro Cube Earth will be invading sometime in the middle of the series. It'll be the only two-issue story in the whole series (the rest are just one-issue stories).

Morrison has said that All-Star Superman is the Earth-1 Superman continuity as if Crisis had never happened and 25 years have actually passed since the last time he was featured in a comic. There are a few obvious flaws with that scenario, as Kent is working for the Planet and not WGBS, and Lois definately did not seem to be approaching 50. On the other hand, the story has a definate Silver Age feel to it. I was struck with a feeling of nostalgia as a iread the book. The Superman of my childhood is back.
