i'm a rookie and i love to play w/ the JLA team. here's the only figs i have w/ JLA team ability:
Icons Superman (E)
Icons Wonder Woman (E)
Legacy Batman (E)
Green Lantern (Hal) (E)
Flash (E)
Black Canary (E)
Elongated Man (R)
Plastic Man (V)
Icons Aquaman (E & V)
generally, i like to play w/ Lantern, Flash, Canary, and Aquaman (the original JLA), but i'm totally open to suggestions.
"Ring...Sling!" - Green Lantern, Justice League of America #3
i don't know the point build you will be in but here are some general suggestions:
Green Lantern (hal)--he's got the tk/willpower combo that you need and is a good attacker with good range, attack, plus good defense and damage. Not that you really want him too but if he takes some damage he picks up barrier which is good for the JLA too. The goal is to tk out a hitter then follow up with a RS attack or rs attack then push with willpower to rce attack or tk out an attacker on two consecutive turns. he's a great piece.
Elongated Man---he's got prob, though you have to push him to get there with decent defense and leapclimb helps him get into position quickly to make use of that power. If you get a chance, run down an expereinced Elongated Man and use it. He starts with prob and super senses, is JLA and not much more expensive. I think he is really good and his range increases to a 2. But since you've only got the rookie, stick him on the team for sure.
Flash---he's decent and outwit is nice (he has it on this version, right? i know the vet does and the rookie doesn't) as is hypersonic speed, but he really needs to be ran with some feat cards like Armor Piercing(to make his damage stick) or swingline(to ground fliers and move thru hindering terrain without having to stop) or nanobots (to heal himself back up since there isn't a medic on the team).
Wonder Woman---she's a big hitter, can take damage and do lots of damage herself. a good piece. You might want to stick a Protected feat card on her.
Superman---im a huge superman fan and this piece is good too with running shot but stealth will be a major hinderance to him. but that's why Flash is on the team, to deal with those people. Good feat cards for him are Fortitude to protect against outwit and exploit weakness and Protected.
Batman---great piece with an awesome dial. he's a good support and attack piece who does both very well. his willpower will help the whole team. I detest the character in the comics because I think he is almost "too good" and unstoppable, but I can't deny he is a great heroclix and should be on your team.
Aquaman----i dont' use him even though I really like the character. he's not that great compared to the others i just mentioned. that doesn't mean he;'s bad but when you have options like Batman, superman, and flash to pick from Aquaman becomes an afterthought. Even though the vet does get support too, so that could be useful for keeping everybody else alive. Plus he has a little regen for keeping himself alive. But it's up to you.
Black Canary--another character that I dont' use that i like even more than aquaman. she's a little weak and can be taken out too easily but she can make a decent piece to block LOS and ping away at your opponent. Still I would pass on her.
plastic man----he's a decent piece but i absolutely can not stand him in the comics. I think he is one of the dumbest characters ever created and i refuse to put him on any of my teams. but if you can look past that, his plasticity and perplex could be a good addition to the JLA team you are building.
hope that helps. Also, you might want to pick up an exp. Red Tornado or even Vixen, Fire, and Ice. All are good pieces that should be relatively easy to find, are pretty cheap costed and would make decent addtions to your collection.

First off, I think the big pieces in the JLA shine best in high point (600+) level games but in mid level (300-400-500) most of it's pieces are decent but some are overlooked. Hal as mentioned is very flexible in providing you with different options both as a ranged combat piece and as a support piece. The 18 Defense makes him a potent player in mid point level games make him a very effective piece.

Haven't had much experience with this piece yet so no comment.

I find when I play Flash I'm more often inclined to play the E over the V simply because I'm saving 16 points of one extra click of life spent else where such as Armor Piercing's 10 points. Overall you're basically getting a more efficient piece and both version have Outwit for one click anyways. I wanted to note that Swingline will not allow Flash to knock off flight because he can't make a ranged attack, but Swingline does allow Flash to ignore hindering terrain for movement which HSS is affected by. Flash I believe is most effective as that pesky Outwitter that can move freely about to Outwit the opponent in almost every situation. It also helps to knock off other one-click wonders with HSS.

WW is fairly straight forward as a flying brick piece. I personally like Divebomb when applicable to provide some moderate defense against ranged attackers if she soars.

An improvement to the JLA because it lacks many Running shot pieces. Most characters in JLA tend to enjoy charging into melee combat, so Superman rounds out the options to do both. Points are high but entirely worth it in mid point games if you play Superman as the big gun followed by some lower point allies.

Very different from the Hypertime V Batman, this Batman I'd say is highly flexible. being 94 points is fairly good which allows you to tack on feats like Nanobots and Pounce to make Batman a highly mobile piece with plenty of chances to get back to important clicks. Being stealthed and having PC is a great ability for Bats to help out the rest of the JLA make successful hits or make opponents fail their hits. I like to think of him as a first-click Fan Forces Scarlet Witch with close combat capabilities.

On lower point games Aquaman is available. Vet offers Support which would be great but I find only useful in higher point matches. In lower point matches, Aquaman is steady but not as point efficient as his HT counterpart, but a decent bruiser nonetheless. If your team has great mobility, try Atlantis Rising+Submerged to make him a bigger threat.

She's very overlooked as a piece, definitely a third string attacker, but Incapacitate is like the best power ever. Because she's fairly cheap you probably wouldn't want to put on feats, and simply have her Incapping, tying up enemy pieces, etc. Having her work with Bat's PC will give her better attacking options.

You get a tie-up piece and a perplexer from Plastic Man but both ideas kinda contradict each other but if you're in a need of those two roles, Plastic Man can offer that. He has a nice Movement value to get into the right positions for whatever role you want him to be. I personally think he's a little over priced for where his powers are placed, and prefer the E over the V. However, the V does have better attack values to make him good for making successful attacks... that being said I think he'd be good for taunt+extended range.
The Justice League can be a pretty stealthy team. I remember one game I played a JLA team that featured the Atom, Batman (Legacy exp), Green Arrow and Black Canary as a stealth squad. I also had Arthur Curry and Green Lantern (Unleashed exp) to round out the team.
Curry with a heavy object is a force to be reckoned with, so enemy fire was focused on him. That allowed the stealth squad and Hal (with Trick Shot) to take care of anyone who could target my stealth guys. I made one guy struggle just to take out Arthur and Canary. When he finally managed to get Green Arrow, he remarked that he hadn't managed to even touch the big guys on my team. Batman was still in stealth and Green Lantern was using his range to stay safe.
So my advice? Pick up some Green Arrows and an Atom. The Justice League is sually assumed to be a straightforward power team. It can mess with people's minds when you use them as a gang of stealth fighters. I haven't tried this strategy out with the Martian Manhunter yet, and don't know if I will. He's kind of pricey for what he can go.
Dont forget about Green Flame (17 points) as a cheap taxi! I played her this past weekend just because I had the points left over and she worked great as a taxi/tieup peice that I used to carry Sabretooth.

Alot of older JLA figures aren't too shabby. Like Hypertime Vet Batman offers a good character for Stunning Blow and Inspiring Command... As mentioned before Hypertime Aquaman is really great as well. Steel is also good for his diverse ability to change from Range to Close combat...
If you can get him, Atom is really awesome as well.

I've been tweaking my JLA team with the new CD figs. I still need Icons Flash, Luthor & Zoom so that I can finish off my team for the Heroes/Villians Mirror Match game.
Back to the team, Vet Fire w/ Armor Piercing and Exp Red Tornado are great. He can push to TK and she is relatively inexpensive at this build total that she can either draw fire or push to get to her EE and then ping the medics whilst she hits figs waiting to heal.
But the added TK will allow your GL to become more of a front-runner. And you can select between a variety of them now. Kyle Exp is currently leading the pack in my book.

Huntress is a really nice sniper. She's a steal at 35 points--8 range, 9 AV two targets and RCE.
Maxima is just blah. Not enough range to be a shooter, yet not really dangerous in hand-to-hand. She has lots of defensive powers, but has low values. She brings TK to the JLA, but GLs and Red Tornado are much better for the team overall.
Superboy? He costs almost as much as both of the Experienced Wonder Woman figures, yet isn't as good as either. On the plus side, he has the same 2 clicks of Charge, the same amount of superstrength and has more damage reducers. Negatives: lower AVs on almost every click, lacks the huge damage potential of the Icons WW's first click, and one less click of life. He's good enough for theme teams, but I would stick with WW for power games.
Superboy's JLA TA is to represent his time on the Young Justice team. He was never actually in the JLA. So if you want to do a real theme, you can't really use him on a pure JLA theme team.
