Rex moved in on Barbara, a look of hatred on his face. Then he suddenly doubled over as Tim's explosives found their mark and he began to lose cohesion.

"It's not over, brats," he muttered "Wait until you get a load of..."

Then he was gone.

No sooner did Metamorpho fall then Batman began barking out orders. The remaining checkmate agent broke off and began running away further into the compound.

“Robin,” Batman said. “Pick up Spoiler and take her to the Batmobile. Take her back to the Batcave for treatment; Alfred will know what to do, but he’ll need your help. Batgirl, go with him - you’re no good to us wounded.”

Robin hesitated at the thought of driving the Batmobile - and even more at having the responsibility of Spoiler’s safety on his shoulders. “Uh, but I don’t--“

“Now!”

“uh.. Yeah. Right,” Robin said, lifting her and carrying her limp body to the car.

“Come on, Robin,” Batgirl reassured, holding her arm as she joined him. “It practically drives itself.”

“Yeah… sure.” Robin said as the overhead dome sealed shut.

“Canary,” Batman said as the Batmobile raced away. “Collect together Metamorpho with the equipment we’ve brought. The rest of you come with me. We’ll collect the others.”

Further inside the compound, Batman stops at a computer as he attempts to find out where the other Outsiders are being kept.

He may be intimidating, but I‘ve got to speak up for Robin, Azrael Thought to himself. He stepped forward behind Batman as the Dark Knight continued his work at the terminal. “Don’t you think you were a little hard on Robin?”

“Not at all,” Batman said flatly. “He needs to get used to her. They are going to be fighting together for a long time.”

“But they’re just kids. It’s going to take some time for them to...”

“If he doesn’t work it out, he’ll end up as a liability. I can’t let that happen, so I would have to let her go. I’m not ready to do that, yet, so he must learn to be stronger. There--” he finished as the computer clicked off. Batman started walking ahead as the rest of the party followed. They went through a door where they found a number of strange pods with the missing Outsiders laying in them seemingly unconscious. Katana rushed up to Halo’s pod.

“Don’t worry,” the red-clad heroine said, rubbing the glass of the pod. “We’re going to get help for you. Straighten you out.”

“Quickly,” Batman said, walking over to a control pad and opening up the pods. “Get them out of here. Once they are outside, they will be in teleporter range. J’onn has agreed to keep them at the Justice League’s temporary headquarters and work on their mental rehabilitation.”

“Wait,” Azrael said. “We’re missing one. What about that one that had the whips…?”

“She wasn’t an Outsider.” Batman said.

“But still there are two empty pods; not one. She might be in trouble.”

“Somehow, I don’t think that’s the case,” Catwoman said, looking behind the furthest pods where the Checkmate agent who ran lay cut open with slashes to the neck and side. “Those were definitely caused with a whip…”

“She had a treatment pod, and yet was not affected. Interesting.” Batman mused.

“Well at least this horror with Checkmate is over,” Katana said standing up.

“No,” Batman said darkly. “We still have one piece left to take.”
