My friends and I have run into a couple of situations lately where someone has wanted to use Protected when hit by a Stunning Blow and we can't seem to come to consensus and what the sequence of events is.
If a character with no tokens is the victim of a SB, and they use Protected, I imagine Protected would prevent the damage but would they still take a token from the Incap? If so, this would give them 2 tokens (1 for Protected and 1 for SB).
Now, what if the target has a token on it? Does the SB give the target a token before Protected would be played, thus making it impossible to use because the character already has two tokens?

Correct.

Protected can be used to ignore the damage. Placing tokens comes last (at the resolution of the action), so damage would be dealt before that at the time when the character has only one token. Since it only has one token, it can opt to use the Protected feat and ignore that damage. Using the feat then causes a second token to be placed on the character, potentially pushing it.
