Heres how its going down. Mystique is based by friendly character Psylocke. (gives her enhancement) and Oposed by Ghost widow. When she makes an attack can she use the range combat expert since GW is hovering?
Magneto was Right!
"A touch of overkill, aye there Squinty"- Wolverine to Cyclops after a Mega Optmic Blast.
Apparantly a character which has flight along with J/L/C can engage grounded characters from soaring mode. Is this correct? (Mimic) to be particular.
Can a Soaring character use barrier, at half range of course? or Pulsewave?
Or better yet can somone show me the rules of soaring characters? I just started using this ability and have been playing since IC, lol. Cannonball and Rogue are a whole lot better now.

In the first example, your Mystique can range Ghost Widow. The only time she would not be able to make a ranged attack against a flyer (either hovering or soaring) is if she were based by an opposing non-flying character.
If a character has leap/climb they may make close combat attacks against an opposing character if they are at different elevations (i.e. your figure is on the ground, it can attack a opposing character on elevated terrain or that is in soaring mode.)
Soaring:
1. It costs a movement point to change a flyer from hovering mode to soaring mode and vice versa. (Adjust your flight stand to indicate soaring.)
2. Soaring characters may not attack non-soaring characters. (Exceptions: if the flyer has leap/climb or the Divebomb feat.)
3. Non-Soaring characters may only make ranged attacks against a soaring character but their range is cut in half. So if you have 8 range you would need to be within 4 squares to make the attack. (Exception: Leap/climb characters can make close combat attacks.)
4. Giants (Atlas/YellowJacket/Atom Smasher etc.) and Colossal figures (Galactus/Spectre/Foom/Dark Phoenix/Sentinel etc.) are at all elevations so they do not have to cut their range in half when making an attack against a soaring character. They may also make close combat attacks if they are adjacent.

A soaring character cannot use Barrier. It can use Pulse Wave, but will only hit other soaring figures and giants/colossals. Non-soaring figures are safe.
