I was looking at Wikipedia and decided to look up these characters. First I looked for The Galactic Golem. There was nothing, but it provided me with a link to a list of DC characters suggesting that somehow, somewhere there's some kind of reference to the character that made the site direct me to DC. For the record it did not list the Galactic Golem. The Galactic Golem; as I recall him, was a monster created by Luthor that was even more powerful then Superman. If I remember correctly, Luthor even concluded he was too powerful and switched over to helping Superman defeat the monster. We're talking precrisis Supes here. He was eventually defeated by trapping him under the North Pole using the Earth's gravitation or something.

Then I decided to look up Vartox. Wikipedia verified something I always suspected about this character, that he was created because of the Sean Connery movie "Zardoz". To me this is one of the oddest characters ever created for comics. If you ever saw the movie you'd understand where I'm coming from. I mean; if you're a Sean Connery fan and you want to pay homage in comics form, is this the way you'd go? Just really odd is all.

I'm a big fan of Vartox and the Galactic Golem.

A while back when I modeled for Steve Sadowski (1st artist on last JSA book) i used to suggest things every now and then when they were figuring stuff out.
(it was my idea to use SOlomon Grundy for the Joker last laught x-over, and I helped deseign Onimar Sin a bit)
They almost worked the galactic golem into a jla crossover in an annual or secret origins and files but it didn'yt quite work, Geoff Johns really wanted to use the galactic Golem though...

Vartox was put into current continuity by Dan Jurgens right at the end of his Superman run (drawn by Steve Epting) and was part of his last Superman story arc.
THe thrust of the plot was Brainiac using other planets champions against Superman threatening to destroy thier planets...

I enjoyed Jurgens take on VArtox especially since he wore more clothes...

Kar-Brak, I looked for him too, nothing. Though I spelled him as Karbrak.
I'm curious, did you ever see Zardoz?

You should see a mechanic to get those brakes fixed on your car. Might want to have them check out your muffler too.

Unfortunately I have seen Zardoz...

Thankfully I almost don't remember details anymore...
