Not thematic at all... but you get the use of a good TA and TK from him. And he's got some range to be a good backup to Scarlet.
Then adding either Shang or even Black Panther (for 11 AV + Perplex) could give you some really good options with the Sin Syn TA. Add a cheap Bat Ally and you should be able to cause some trouble.

I actually considered using Contingency Plan, but my entire team is short range and without a Flyer or Telekinesis they'll need to be able to out action the Disbanded Starro. Also, I know that another player is planning on fielding 200 points of support. That coupled with my one Theme Re-roll and Scarlet Spider's Vendetta bonus should, hopefully, be enough to atleast dent the giant space starfish of doom.
I use Scarlet Spider with Pounce. I use him to pounce out and get to his second click with the outwit.
The problem with pouncing him is that there are a ton of better, cheaper pounce figs. And you're wasting what Scarlet is actually good at (that being ranged attacks). You can do it, I suppose, but why use Ben for that when you could use Spider-Man? That's like using Frank Schlichting as your Defend piece when Hydro-Man E can do the same for cheaper and better.
I agree that pounce is a waste on Ben. That opening click is all about the RCE. Use it. Thats why you are using him and not Peter after all.
chadthebad, Two things. First Inspiring Command only works on figs that are lower costing than the figure to whom the feat is assigned. In your case, it will not work. I did this very same thing with Tim Drake before.
Secondly, you must have 300 points before you benefit from the Themed Team re-roll.

I guess the reason I like to pounce is it makes Ben multi-Dimensional, also, the second click on Ben is the best(IMHO) and I don't want to push him there without getting something out of it. The outwit and good TA give him a good chance of surviving after the pounce and with nanobots on him he can always get back to his good second click which is where he wants to be.
I like my ranged threats to have a longer range then 6, but that is just me. I think, get Ben in there and do some damage and then get out and heal.

I have used this team before, and its a pain for an opponent to crack the defense, you have to play it slow though and let your opponent come to you, know when to run in there and when to get away. But, its a good team for Ben.

I just ran Ben tonight after this thread. Starro docks map, 400 points, 3-way. The team:
Scarlet Spider + Point Blank Shot
Man-Thing V + Submerged
Black Cat E
Alfred Bystander
Skrull Infiltrator R
Moon Knight E + Alpha Flight
Hawkeye E Ult.
Black Panther E
I took down a Superman+Batman 1,000,000 team (admittedly Superman 1,000,000 isn't great, but the HSS was a huge threat), as well as a V Bizarro (laugh, but he was scary to my team), Mr. Mind, Batzarro, and Man-Bat E (Starter) team. Scarlet never took a hit.
