Hi after reading the official FAQ from the HeroClix site I'm a little confused. Can anyone clarify the following statements:
“Line of fire from an elevated attacker is not blocked or hindered by other
grounded figures or grounded hindering terrain, unless the terrain occupies the
same square as the target” (19). This does not mean that line of fire from a
grounded attacker is not blocked to an elevated target. The rules favor the
elevated attacker."
>> So does that mean I can snipe away from the roof edge and a grounded character cannot target me because the square I'm in is blocking terrain (the roof edge)?
OR
>> Does that mean that a grounded character can shoot me but I get a plus 1 to my defense for any hindering terrain that is on the ground between him and me, despite the fact I'm elevated.
NEXT
"You must move through each space of the stairs while walking from the
ground to the rooftop, or vice-versa."
>> What about characters with leap/climb the stairs (aside from the top / final square are not considered elevated but surely common sense means I can jump to them (since they are lower than the final square! Would such a jump end my move?
LASTLY
Not from the FAQ but from the rules pamphlet... it states that characters with leap/climb can move straight up to elevated terrain from the ground but must end their move. It says nothing about coming back down! So can characters with leap/climb go from elevated terrain to ground terrain directly, does this end their move as soon as they hit the ground?
OR
>>must they use the stairs / ladders to come down????
>> Does that mean that a grounded character can shoot me but I get a plus 1 to my defense for any hindering terrain that is on the ground between him and me, despite the fact I'm elevated.
Thats correct, thats the bonus for elevated shooting. Also you can shoot over intervening figures and those on the ground cannot. Altho this doesnt make perfect sense it does give elevated shooters and advantage, which is a good thing, otherwise it wouldnt be worth getting elevated.

Leap/Climbers just ignore the "roof edge" and keep moving. They dont need to go up the stairs or end their movement because of terrain (or because of becoming adjacent to enemy). Leap/Climb is an excellent power!!
All the superpowers are exceptions to the written rules in cases were they apply.

It doesnt say they must end their move. It says they may end their move on elevated terrain. ie you dont have to go around elevated terrian you can go on/over it. Getting down is the same, just move as if it wasnt there. (ie ignore terrain effects)
One more question it says characters with leap / climb can attack adjacennt enemies regardless of their elevation, my question is - Does that include adjacent soaring characters?
So can I leap up from the ground and batter a soaring character?
Shooting up at an elevated clix does give you a -1 to hit. Meaning the thick black line at the roof's edge is NOT hindering terrain.
But to shoot down or to be shot from below the elevated clix MUST be on the roof's edge.
Another important thing to remember....if you are shooting UP at someone and another clix stands in your direct LOF it DOES block you LOF, but that same clix you are shooting at, but can't, CAN shoot at you. THAT is the elevated terrain perk.

ay? No one said the edge of the roof was hindering. The original poster mentioned hindering grounded terrain between the characters. Maybe you misread (or maybe I just didnt understand your post )

So your aggreeing with what I said here?

Thick black lines on any map are _always_ blocking terrain.
A grounded fig may shoot someone on the edge of the roof with no penalty if you have a clear line of fire; the target still receives a +1 to Def if the LoF crosses hindering terrain. If any figures are in the LoF it's blocked and you cannot shoot.
A figure on the edge of the roof may shoot freely at any grounded figure in range. Elevated attackers ignore all grounded hindering terrain except for the square the target is in, so you still can't shoot Stealth standing in the bushes. Grounded blocking terrain operates normally, blocking LoF but figures are ignored.
Whenever someone asks me what I think the most dangerous animal is, i tell them it has to be a shark riding on an elephant, just eating and trampling everything in sight.
Thick black lines are BLOCKING terrain, not hindering.
From the rules:
Quote
A grounded character can make a ranged combat attack against an elevated figure if the only blocking terrain the line of fire crosses is in the square the target occupies.
And the FAQ:
Quote
Grounf-to-rooftop is possible only if the figure on the rooftop is at the edge of the building. Otherwise, the intervening squares will block line of fire.
Abe: as for your question. In his original question he asked Does that mean that a grounded character can shoot me but I get a plus 1 to my defense for any hindering terrain that is on the ground between him and me, despite the fact I'm elevated.
And you responded with, Thats correct, thats the bonus for elevated shooting.
The rest I agree with. Its just that grounded characters don't get a -1 to hit elevated characters unless the elevated character is on an object and thus in Hindering Terrain. The thick blackline denoting the roof's edge is NOT hindering terrain.

Yea, thats how I responded, coz thats correct! From the rulebook, only the elevated figure ignores terrain/figures in between the target/shooter.

Ignoring hindering terrain only works when you are shooting from elevated terrain, it must be taken into account as usual when shooting at elevated characters from the ground.
