View Poll Results: Describe how you feel about "power creep" in HC
It's a necessary evil - just live with it, it drives up sales.
As someone who likes to play with ALL the game's figures, I often express annoyance when new figures come along that are far more cost-effective than old figures, to the extent that what you can buy with 100 points now is far more powerful than what 100 points could have bought you two years ago.
I'm curious what most users on the Realms think of this topic, which really drives a lot of conversation.

I associate with all the answers except the one not acknowledging power creep.
If there is power creep, it should be marquee names...that way when you're playing and random comic book fans walk by they can recognize the pieces.
If the old Namor , Wonder Woman, and 616 Captain America's were as good as it gets...I have no need to buy stuff. When that need goes away, the game slowly goes with it.
I feel as though power creep should be used to 'level the playing field' away from dominant strategies. We discovered long ago that the numbers that change aren't as important as that constant stat by the lightning bolt. Any 'power creep' making that particular stat less important is a change I'm in favor of.
I like that the newer figures effectively replace the old. JonL dials are front-loaded and boring; I'm glad they are being replaced with better, more interesting dials. That's what keeps my interest in this game growing! Before Seth took over the design, I was getting bored. Call it power creep or whatever you like, but better, more interesting dials than what we were given originally is a GOOOOOOD thing!
CarlosMucha: that is like be running in a Olimpic race competition just one step to get the gold and then a Giant children place a mirror in your side and you discover what you are really a hamster over a whell and the gold is just a slice of chess. Avatar Summoning: Original GotG, Melter, Whiplash
Have we come up with a definition of "Power Creep" yet?
I've seen Power Creep screamed for:
Black Adam
Truth Captain America
Doomsday
Mordru
Punisher
Deathstroke
Thing
Dr. Strange
V Hawkman
The problem is, these figures have nothing in common.
Some have better stats but lack dynamic powers keeping their cost down.
Some are bloated up with waves of powers compared to their older versions.
Some are nearly identical to previous versions but just need the trendy "PC" label.
So what is Power Creep?
Taking a 150 point power figure and adding 100 more points of powers to get him to 250?
Pumping up the stats of a figure while keeping his cost down?
Taking the same figure, changing a few things here and there, and saying he is new?
Or is Power Creep like Cheese? Its all in the eye of the beholder?
None really apply for me, I guess. (can't edit...)
I find figures to be about what you pay for, for the most part. R HT Riddler is pretty ineffective. When he came out originally he was only good for theme and perplex. That remains the same.
R HT Hawk is as efficient a Bruiser as anything that has ever come out since.
I do think Special Powers are priced poorly with my gut telling me they are the same price as the most expensive power they duplicate or are just made up when there is no equivalent.
But unless the new designer axes them, or has a better plan for them (using them for powers the PAC CAN'T duplicate), I guess we are stuck with them.
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.
There may be a power creep on the new clix but i challenge anybody to say Vet Havok is not the most powerful figure ever made such low points.
Disclaimer: offer not available outside of my house all entrants will be disqualified and i will not listen to their arguments even if they are completely right.
The release of figures that, compared with figures from previous sets that perform the same or similar function, achieve the same or better results for far less points.
E.G. comparing the new 48-point Captain America with the old U Guardian from Collateral Damage.

1) Characters costing less for the same powers they have had before. This seems to be the one most people talk about. Other then Nightcrawler there are easy reasons for the cost being the same.
2) Characters stats increasing over time. Take a look at Colossus. This character has been through all 3 Transitions.

You can steadly see the stats increasing per incarnation. This is power creep to me.

So your saying #1 of groups I put down which I still don't see. Guardian has more kliqs of toughness which is kinda obvious why Guardian is the similar priced. We have always known Powers cost more then stats. Toughness, Invulnerability, and Impervious always cost more then other powers.

The cost is increasing at least! Comparing the new and old V Namor both at 150 makes me wonder a bit.
