I can never remember what is retired and what is not, and it bugs the #### out of me. Can we get someone to put up a retirment list or at least a "what isn't retired list" and have it stickied for ease of finding. That would be just awesome, and the last thing we need on this page to make it a one stop shop for just about everything.

Well hey now, don't I look like an idiot. Thanks Doom!

What maps are currently retired? I would guess all of the ones without the colored terrain borders, but probably also the Armor Wars, Collateral Damage, and Sinister maps?

Note: LEs and collector's edition figs are always legal when they are "in hand" even if that is before the set's release date. LEs and collector's edition figs retire with the rest of their set as normal.
Why would maps not retire at the same time as sets? Objects, BFCs, feats and bystanders do.

You can't. However, they are specifically mentioned in the Comprehensive Tournament rules:
2.2 List of Retired HeroClix Sets
The following HeroClix sets are retired: Infinity Challenge, Hypertime, Clobberin’ Time, Xplosion, Cosmic Justice, Indy HeroClix, Critical Mass, Unleashed, Universe, Ultimates, Mutant Mayhem, Legacy, Fantastic Forces, and Icons, as well as the bystander tokens from the DC and Marvel Map Kits and the 3-D objects from the Indoor and Outdoor Adventure Kits. The following colossal HeroClix characters are retired: Sentinel (2002), Sinestro, and Galactus (2004 convention season). See the HeroClix Set List document at www.wizkidsgames.com/userhome/rules.asp for a complete list of all HeroClix game elements and their status.
Without that specific item, they would still be tournament legal since they do not have a set symbol (the normal criteria for determining retirement). Since no specific mention of maps (say, as an example, the Prison map given out when Sinister was released) have been made though, they are still tournament legal regardless of what set they happened to be associated with time-wise.
So the danger Room objects aren't retired even though danger room is? Interesting. Wait a minute . . . I just found this in small print at the bottom of the set list:
'All LE figures, Convention figures, Special Objects, Bystander tokens, Feat cards, and Battlefield Condition cards are considered part of the set whose symbol they share and are retired with them. The only items that have a set symbol and do not retire with the set are some Colossal figures. Official HeroClix maps without the modern color designations are retired.'
I think I'm glad that they are keeping as many maps as possible tournament legal.
