My comic shop closed 2 months back...so I have to drive 1 hr. to Orlando to get my comics. Well, I was at the mall & went to see what new hotness has come out & noticed that instead of all the prices being $2.99 they all were $3.99!!!!!!!!!
As I see it, right now is a very bad time to try to make a living in the comic industry, thanks to a down economy and rising prices. I kind of expect to see some serious cutbacks in the near future. I know my comic budget isn't what it used to be, and I'm less likely to take a chance on something at $3.99, when $2.99 is pushing it. Sad but true.

It appears that Marvel and DC have decided to leapfrog straight to $3.99 as the next price point for comics.
I recently turned in a new pull list at my local comic shop. For twenty years, revising the pull list resulted in a net gain -- every title I dropped or miniseries that ended was replaced, and more matieral caught my eye.
My new list went from sixty-seven items to twenty.
Here's what happened: I knew I had to cut my spending. I thought I'd just drop a couple marginal titles. But once I drew that line and started cutting, the books fell like autumn leaves. I just couldn't justify the money I was spending compared to the value I received, especially as prices continue to rise.
DC really shot themselves in the foot with their recent decision to cancel the Dixonverse books. This was definitely not the time to give me a "jumping off point." The replacement books are not an automatic buy; they're going to face some stiff resistance before they make the list.
