This is the thread for discussing everyone's favorite heroclix, Arcane! Anyways, I was wondering what your favorite tactics and strategies with Arcane are.
I actually got my first Leap/Climb attack w/ Arcane - the Super Strength damage bonus was sweet!
However, there are other figs in his point range I'd rather use. I guess I'm just not familiar enough with his dail. Perhaps I'll have to pull up the 'ol azs review and see what I can see...
A very strategic fig, in that you can be relatively sure your opponent won't be familiar with him, because His Infernal Nastiness is both seriously expensive and creepy-looking as all get-out. Don't undersestimate the creepy factor -- it's a big reason people are liable to pass him over when it comes time to make teams.
If you're willing to conquer your arachnophobia and put him into play (and keep him away from the front, at least for a while,) you've got a dial with all sorts of fun, devious -- and often simultaneous -- powers. The simultaneous thing is key -- it means your opponent'd need multiple outwitters to effectively de-fang him.
So keep him back, doing nasty psychic blasts at range, while leap/climbing hither and yon to avoid attacks, if necessary (although that impervious means you can kick back and put all eight of your feet up.) Meanwhile, your other, more flashy figs are softening the field up a bit, so the can come in at the end and sop things up with his poison and perplex -- powers that even those familiar with him tend to forget about, in the heat of battle.
I'm a DC guy, and I can't play him with an all insect team, unfortunately, so I put him together with his fellow mad scientists: Grodd, TO Morrow, Mad Hatter, DeSaad and the Key. Oh, sure, they get their collective butt kicked, but they do so with wit and elan. Plus lots of maniacal laughter.
I don't know if it was the fact that I'm sick, had a nasty headache, taking medicine or just made a very stupid move but I played my worst game ever last night and Arcane was on my team. I also had my worst rolling experience ever. I don't think I rolled higher than a 7 all night. I used LE Doctor Doom, 10 attack, perplexed the attack to 11 two or three times and he missed on all but one attack and on that attack I perplexed his damage up instead. He was missing 14 and 15 shields.
When DC first came out, I used this guy but I don't think he has been on any team since Clobberin' Time. I always had good luck using him. I made ####py teams that revolved around him and they took out teams they shouldn't have because of his powers.
Anyway he missed his first attack. He had to hit a 16 shield whatever Hawkman is plus hindering and missed. Harley perplexed his attack up while Green Goblin did his damage, oh and this is the Vet Arcane.
On the next turn, I was trying to play a mind game with my opponent. GG uses willpower, picks up a heavy object and plops Arcane and himself in front of Batman and Hawkman. I wouldn't have done this since Arcane had a token, but I figured they would have went after Green Goblin since I've never played Arcane against this oppenent. It back fires, Batman outwits his impervious and they clean his clock with Hercules putting in a final punch. Then Green Goblin was just swarmed while my other characters, I don't even know what they hell they were doing other than missing shot after shot.
The only person that hit anything was Poison Ivy and that was just constantly incap. someone. She was using a V Doombots attack, she hit with it, but he kept missing.
And then towards the end I just had a total break down. I mind controlled Magneto to throw the 3D dumpster at Gambit only Gambit was stealthed so I wasted that not paying attention and just moved Magneto.
It came down to this:
Poison Ivy
vs.
E Dr Strange, E Ice Man (Yeah I couldn't kill Ice Man!!!!!! That shows how ####py the roles were), E Magneto and V Gambit.
I can't remember now if V Robin and V Hawkman were still alive. Doctor Doom did a few pulsewaves at the end. I know I took out Hercules because I mind controled him, pushed him, and attack Hawkman who was carrying him around. I probably incap. Hercules 5 times with Ivy during the game.
The only two characters I know I took out for sure were Batman and Wasp. Big whoop! And it was a battle taking out Wasp. Batman fell victum to that shot I mentioned earlier from Doom with knockback.
In the past, I've used Arcane and no one took him serious. The real key is having someone else who is good on the team, like I did with Goblin, then you hope your opponent takes them as a bigger threat while Arcane is eating them up. Then once they go for him, what do they outwit if they have the power?
