Wild Sentinels were something from Morrison's run on Xmen. They're like Sentinels made from scraps and they wiped out Genosha. I can't recall how they were originally created, however. Someone with the TPB of the first Morrison Arc should be able to answer this better. I'm pretty sure it had something to do with Cassandra Nova.
"Come on Hulk! Where's the old boasting? The battle cries? Why aren't you bellowing about how you're 'the strongest one there is'? Could it be because... you know it's not true?"
"No. Because it's just too obvious."
-Juggernaut to Hulk
they were sentinels that were left to adapt on their own, if damaged they would gather available materials form their surroundings to fix themselves ie attaching pistols and rifles etc. They were usually smaller dog sized, and mostly looked like over sized hornets. They're mostly seen in Grant Morrison's New X-Men and a Shadowcat mini that Claremont wrote before adding her to Xtreme X-men cast

This pretty much sums it up. And yeah, they were created by (or at least first appeared with) Cassandra Nova.
Find Boneyard he knows I remember seeing it on Who clix
Here is a quote from Boneyards entry on it.

WILD SENTINEL (Bystander) (bad)
Created by a Master Mold hidden deep in the jungles of Ecuador, "wild" sentinels are constructed out of spare parts. They take untraditional forms resembling local wildlife, such as birds, reptiles and insects. The only common factor between these robots and their "big brothers" is a Sentinel-style helmet. They can regenerate and are equipped with a wide variety of weapons and sensor devices. Allies: Sentinel Enemies: X-Men
