Funny thing with all this well chase figures help sell boosters. I do not think that FoT (Frog of Thunder) and Ironman Chase sold HoT, what sold HoT were the fantastic figures and dials of the set. Same is true with SuperNova, it was the dials and figures being done that sold the set. Another thing, I do not think HC needs gimmics to sell boosters. HC came a long way and sold very well without a gimmic of the chase figure. If they are going to do chase, then 1 chase per case with 4 chases per set, or not at all.
Frog and Buster were chases done right. Neither was game breaking in power, nor were either essential characters to a core storyline or team.
They got their value from being chase. They encouraged completists to buy more. I bought a second brick of HoT (more hoping to get a God Pack for the SRs) and was happy to gat ThorBuster, and I wouldn't mind Throg either, but my gameplay and team building aren't hindered by not having them.
Nekron and Black Hand are Core Characters from the Main, Current Storyline. For Blackest Night fans that don't pull these, the BN starter will be less fun (it won't make me not buy it, but it will not give me (as much) good will towards the makers of the set/game). Dex-Star would make a good chase (some people would go crazy for it, but it's not essential).
This is What I Want(ed, circa GSX/2010): Nextwave ATA: 100 pts. may use all Team Abilities as long as force is only Nextwave keyword.

I agree that a good chase should not be game breaking, a central part of the story, but just a happenstance character. FoT and Sinstro Batman were good chases.

That is the rub, isn't it. That Wizkids keeps making central characters a chase or one of the chases. This is what grates a lot of people's nerves. But this set was still under Topps-Wizkids; we will have to see what Neca-Wizkids is going to do with the chase issue. Whether they will continue it or not; if they do continue what direction are they going to go with the idea.
Salu Digby as LeVIathan in clix!

these are NECA chases. Digital Sculpts in the new style, Core characters from a storyline not yet released when the set was originally planned... Nekron Not even leaked until late in the Hiatus.
This is the very first NECA clix we're going to see.
at least a small percentage of us will see them that is.
let's quit complainin about how hard it is to get chase figures!! Man, the bellyaching is killing me!
If we as a human race had just sat around the caves and complained about being cold would we have ever created fire?
You have that backwards, actually. If people didn't have a complaint about the cold, they never would have invented fire to begin with (although, as already pointed out, technically we didn't "invent" fire...).
Every solution, every bit of technology, every innovation starts with something*:
A complaint.
* All right, maybe not every solution, bit of technology, innovation, whatever. But really. Often enough, it's a complaint that first compels people into doing something. Just complaining won't get you very far, but you need to start somewhere.
I'm in Providence! I've been out of the hobby, but I'm looking for Saturday gaming. Send me a PM if you know the down-low!

Whaaaaat! You mean that Wizkids are going to kept the Tuttle tradition of making central characters into chase. Who said that the old Wizkids is gone, must have been kidding.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
Seriously, I think chases, as a general rule, are okay. I'm not wild about it, but I can deal with it.
I DO think that chase figures of main characters that are not available in another format is a bad play.
Crisis, for instance. E2 Supes is a bad chase idea. It's the only one of him you can get. KC Supes, at least, is available from Unleashed, so it isn't like you're missing out on THAT much.
As previously mentioned, Sinestro Batman, Frog of Thunder, and Thorbuster are perfectly done chases. To a lesser extent, Queen H (Legacy WW unique), Alfred (Bat Alpha), and the Zombies were as well. Secondary/supporting characters, some of whom had or would have their own separate sculpts. Or characters that are from a 1-issue (or 1 panel) of a storyline.
Nekron and Black Hand are primary characters in THE major 2009/2010 storyline for DC. The fact that they are chases is not a good thing, IMHO.
Actually, in retrospect... chases like B&TBs are worse than the "Tuttle Chase plan". Zombies were an alternate universe that did have at least 2 of the zombies appear in a future set. Origin was secondary characters, 2 of whom did have alternate versions in dial form.
At least they weren't pivotal characters in a major storyline.

Wasn't the Origins Superman also from Earth-2? He represents an earlier time in E-2 Supes career, so that's why he doesn't have flight (though he can leap over a building in a single bound!).
As for the Chase E-2 superman, I'm only mad about it because I don't have it, but I'm not about to shell out a lot of cash for one, either. I'm not a big fan of "tent pole" teams, and I get good mileage with E Wildcat & Liberty Belle for more than half the cost for my JSA teams.

I play Origin Supes as the Earth-2 version.
Without going into a major exegesis on how Earth-2 came about in early 1960's Justice League books, basically the 1940's versions of the heroes came to be regarded as the Earth-2 ("JSA") versions. So the Origin U Supes, Bats, and WW are technically JSA Earth-2 versions even though they're not keyworded as such.
And you're absolutely correct in saying that Superman didn't fly originally (hence the "leap tall buildings" thing). Flight came later. If you watch the 1940's Fleischer cartoons carefully, you'll see that Supes doesn't fly -- he does the "John Carter jump".

Well, technically, that's true. However, I don't think that mollifies the people that want a little more accurate figure for their COIE battles.
(At least, not from what I've seen around here. And I don't blame them.)

Yes they are. They don't have the TA, but they definitely have the Justice Society Keyword.
Iron River Read my wife's comic or I will say mean things about your dog.
I suckered these guys into playing: Feedback Damage

If we as a human race had just sat around the caves and complained about being cold would we have ever created fire?
If Thomas Edison had just sat in the dark and complained about not being able to read at night would he ever have harnessed electricity and invented the light bulb?
C'mon folks, take the next step in human invention and get those chases!! Sell a couple of super rares and get one off E-bay. Work a little overtime and buy one from a fellow realmser. Stop drinking booze (not recommended) and save up all those nickels and buy a couple of cases!! Trade that 2nd set of Legacy Uniques that you were planning to keep minty fresh and pay for retirement.
Best of all, come to any venue I frequent and for a nominal fee you can play with mine!! I WILL RENT CHASES to all the belly achers out there...man, can't wait to get my hand on Nekron and the new Black Hand, thank you New Wizkids for keeping up with comics!!

You're right! Sorry -- I have Battle Planner and HC Online over on my other computer (and was too lazy to walk over and double-check). Good catch -- rep if it'll let me.
