I'm not sure if this was tackled somewhere here. My apologies if it was already.
SIDESTEP:
Choose a character.
When using the Duo Attack special ability, before making the second attack the character can attempt to move up to 4 squares (it must still successfully break away, if necessary). If it moves, it must be able to attempt the second attack after the move.
LUNGE:
Choose a Character
When the character is given an action, but before it makes a close combat attack, it can break away automatically and move up to 2 squares.
Question: Will the 4 squares from Sidestep add up to the 2 squares from Lunge? That is, of course, provided all prerequisites are met.
2.Lunge activates immediately before the first close combat attack, so you can move up to two squares, breaking away for free, and make your close combat attack.
3.Sidestep would activate before your second attack, so you can move up to four squares, but to do so, you must roll breakaway. If you fail the breakaway, your action would be over, if it's successful then you move the four squares, but must end this movement in a square where you could legally make the second attack.
4.Lunge activates again, you break away automatically and may move two squares.

5.You make your second duo attack.
This is correct other than #3 does not need to be a legal place to make the attack if you are going to use Lunge as long as you move adjacent to the opposing character with lunge.
you mean sidestep? because if what you're saying is the case then i should be able to do what i mentioned above.
no LUNGE takes place IMMEDIATELY before the attack, meaning you have to lunge then attack, nothing can happen in between.
So after the attack it has to be
1:Sidestep
2:Lunge
3:Attack
or you can skip #1 or #2 or both but it must go in that order.
The free breakaway granted from LUNGE is only when you use the feat LUNGE.
(it must still successfully break away, if necessary)
The "if necessary" part - is this referring to something like KOing the first target and not being adjacent to an opposing fig or perhaps knocking a figure back? I am assuming that figures with Leap/Climb still have to roll to break?

Or making a ranged combat attack, etc. Basically, if you're adjacent to an opponent, the breakaway roll will be necessary (barring a few things like the Infiltrate feat). Since it's not a move action, the leap/climber will indeed have to roll for breakaway.

I thought that might be the case, but since I wasn't sure, I erred on the side of more restrictive. Oh well, I was close.

Thanks flatmatt. If only Infiltrate worked with the Bat TA, you'd have a crazy little combo with Sidestep, Lunge, and Infiltrate.
