Um, did you look at the new rule book yet? ANY power that had that caveat (Outwit, Perplex, Barrier, etc) is now covered by this bit on page 15:
Whenever a power or combat ability is countered, or lost because it no longer appears in the stat slot on a character, all game effects generated by that power or ability immediately end, but any tokens placed on character cards (or feats) as a result of the countered power or ability remain there.
That's right, you can be KO'd (or countered, or even just damaged) and Barrier still goes away EXACTLY like it always has
Sorry, couldn't resist
does this override the specific wording on CP about tokens? i just remember before blackest night, the ruling was if you counter the prereq (or make the person lose it), the tokens are gone.
wording:
When the character loses Leadership or Mastermind, remove all contingency tokens from this card.

The specific wording on Contingency Plan would override the general rule.

with the new rules, a W/C cant switch to Bat Ally to make a shot illegal if they werent Bat Ally when the shot was declared...
but YJ can drop giantness to make a shot that is about to happen on him illegal, correct?
Correct.

The attacking character could declare a different action, but does not have to. You could give another character an action or end your turn. If you did the latter, the attacking character would not get a token.
ok, but the specific wording only mentions "loses", not "counters", so does that mean that if leadership is countered, the general rule of the tokens staying applies, but if leadership is lost due to dmg, the specific rule of the feat makes them go away?
i only ask because this is different than the previous ruling....

I can't speak to past rulings, but the current ruling is that if a power is countered then it is lost. So if Leadership/Mastermind is countered then you would remove all contingency tokens from the card.

You can lose powers a variety of different ways: damage, countering, KO, etc.

gotcha. i thought "lose" was specifically defined as not having on the dial anymore due to healing or taking dmg. thanks for clearing it up!
