USING OBJECTS IN CLOSE COMBAT ATTACKS A character carrying an object and making a close combat attack against a single character must use the object in the attack.......... If a character is using a light object in a close combat attack, modify the character’s Damage Value by +1 for the attack; if using a heavy object; modify the character’s Damage Value by +2 for the attack.
** this tells me that i get to put some extra hurt on my opponent thanks to the groovy forklift i'm now carrying via SS **
Just pointing out here that the actual part about using objects in close combat does not mention SS at all. That is why canceling SS has no effect on using objects in close combat attacks.

you are correct, the section you've quoted is explaining the damage bonuses you receive by using an object during an attack.
USING OBJECTS AS WEAPONS
Some powers and abilities (such as Super Strength) allow a character to pick up and carry an object,* and then USE it in close combat and ranged combat attacks. An object is removed from the game once it is used in an attack, even if the attack fails or is evaded.
but this does. all you are doing is taking the next section and using it to make your point. however, the previous section clearly says that SS allows a character to:
1)pick up
2) carry
3) use it
that whole sentence explains what SS allows a character to do.
now maybe my confusion comes from that comma right after the word 'object'*. To me... and this is just me, that should have been a period with the next sentence saying "while carrying an object, a character can use it in a close or ranged combat attack. I'm not saying I'm right, just giving my spin on how i am reading it. And who cares because that wasn't even my original question.
ya see, the funny thing is, i was merely asking that if i am still required to use an object, even without SS (due to me turning it off) do i still get the damage bonus? then someone said the object gives the bonus, not SS. to which i replied "i know", but if i'm still required to USE IT then by that logic I should still get a bonus to damage. no one bothered to answer that question though. then the fight broke out.
so to simplify what i am asking.....
the rulebook says that when you use an object during an attack, you get a bonus to damage. so even if i shut off my SS and i am still required to use said object i should still get that bonus, because i'm attacking and i am using the object when i attack. otherwise how did i even pick it up in the first place? can't use what ya can't pick up. i fully understand what you are trying to say Vanisherpunisher, that is why i also went on to say that if it messes with game balance (as one of the RA's said) then why not even it out by saying that if a character chooses to 'turn off' SS just so they can drop the object, make it so the object is destroyed when dropped. i mean i could be entirely missing the mark as to why that (cancelling a power to drop an object)would create an imbalance in the first place, i dunno.

The answer to this question is yes. Even if you cancel SS when holding an object you must use that object in a close combat attack and using the object grants the damage bonus even though SS is canceled.
Question about Drain the Spectrum. If I say one of the seven colors that Black Hand can mess with and 2 or more of their figures has this on their combat dials can they just cancel these powers on my turn when I declare what color I choose ?
They say the best weapon is one you never have to fire. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to fire once. That's how Dad did it, that's how America does it, and it's worked out pretty well so far." Robert Downey/Tony Stark

They can cancel it, provided that it is an optional power, but that does not cause you to lose the power the way countering does. In other words, canceling it won't stop the modifier.
As I said, though, countering does cause the power to go away. I you call red and Outwit someone's Super Senses (with that being the only red), then the modifier is gone.
How do I post questions or corrections in each of the blogs? I can't find a "Post a Comment" button or link.
The blogs were not a very effective means of communication, so I shut them down. The best way to get rules answers are to post in the Rules Forum. If there is something in particular that you need to ask me or feel there is a thread on the Rules Forum that is not getting settled, feel free to PM me.
