Quick question...

If one character has an 18 defense with Defend, and they give that 18 to a character with the JSA team ability (or Defenders for that matter), would that JSA member be able to then chain the 18 defense to other adjacent JSA members? So it would look like this...

Character with 18 defense & defend = C
Character with JSA team ability = J

C-J-J-J-J

Would each character get the 18 defense?

Yes. Replacement values, no matter the source, completely replace the old combat values.
