Still fairly new to the game here, but looking for some ideas on how to tackle a 800 pt total/400 pts per player build for 2-player "Team-Up".
For any of you with experience with this type of format, what would you suggest? Not looking for specific builds (but wouldn't turn down any advice, either)...more so on the total make-up of the combined 800 pts.
For instance, would it be better for one player to run beatsticks while the other player ran mostly support (not as in the power Support) ala Outwitters, Perplexers and Enhancers or for both players to build the best beatstick build possible for 400 pts?
I'm of the notion that one player should run beaters all around and the other should run mostly support with a primary attacker "just in case". Just not sure if there would be enough support to go around against two opponents.
Format is Modern Age, no other restrictions. Thanks in advance!
I'd advise you to build a balanced team. At the venue I play at, we run similar formats. Try to have the usual pit crew of perplex/outwit/prob if possible. If your "beatstick" partner gets targeted from range you'll be left with a support team that can be toyed with.
Try to run versatile characters or better yet run a team that you're familiar with, that normally helps a lot.
I find that when I team up with a partner its best to both build well rounded forces with enough support pieces to take either force as a self sustaining unit. When I team up I usually like to run a tank that chews up over 200 pts such as superman, hulk, ares, or whatever crazed combatant will draw out your enemies big fighters. My ally "Mr. Friday" will often run a large group of models that may not be stand alone tanks but work well and are all 100 pts or less. With both forces dishing out support pieces either group can lend aid to the other but both forces also have strengths. I find that a 250 point model can dish out enough punishment to keep down my respective foes while my partner would be able to pin down or tie up resistance and pick them off one by one. If an enemy force mirrors his numbers it is often ill equipped for either my style or his. Rather than each army in an alliance being variants of a theme we find strength in diversity of tactics and units.
In multi-player games, the most competitive team are mobile, with high defenses, and lots of range. Look at a future theme with some stealth and wild cards.
