Okay, this may be close to the dumbest question ever but here goes.
Animal Man's special power says he can choose a standard attack power, standard speed power or combat ability.

What's a combat ability? Is that the same as a damage power?

We're both really tired and this one has got our feeble brains stumped.

Combat abilities are things like Flight, Giant-Sized, etc..

More specifically, abilities granted by the combat symbols, be they boot, wing, giant or what-have-you.

Now my question is, it specifies the standard powers have to be attack or speed based, but not the combat abilities. So he should be able to copy the T-Rex's Giant-Sized, right?

This really belongs in the Rules of Combat section. But to answer your question: yes, he is limited to only attack and speed based powers; any combat abilities are fair game (transporter move and attack, sharpshooter, indomitable, duo-attack, flight, carry, swim, giant-size/stride, even colossal if you can find an animal keyword that has it)
