This is one I probably would have done earlier but the cover was yanked from YouTube and I didn't know it was back until drfate98 brought it too my attention again.

I love giving little known acts like McKendree Spring some exposure.

McKendree Spring

As much as I love hearing Neil Young doing his song, I saw McKendree Spring almost 40 years ago, and have never forgotten how awesome they are. I think it may have been the first time I really appreciated a rock violinist completely integrated into the music. Their version starts a little slower, but really builds in intensity as it moves along.

I appreciate both versions very much, but really enjoy the Cover by McKendree Spring.

This was an excellent recommendation, Doc! Great job by McKendree Spring, who, I think, are still active. I loved hearing their version.

But...I cannot vote against Neil here. "River" remains one of my all-time favorites from him.

As much as I hate to vote against them, I'm going to have to throw my vote for Neil here. Down By the River is in my top five list of favorite Neil Young songs and the cover isn't quite as good.

The Spring Suite album by McKendree Spring completely knocked me out and I wish it was avaailable in CD.
