also he gets to use energy shield on himself to protect himself from his own damage so you got a fair shot at missing your self with a 19. also for a BoM team interesting tactic have a mags carry him and unus and w/e fodder or piece you want then have pyro tk'd right in to it by unus to help get him into the fray then opposition is faced with some tough decisions.
How come people are saying "Put him with Magneto and then the enemy will have to come in close to ping at Pyro??"
They can still shoot at Pyro from as far as their range right?
....But I guess they would have to come in close to shoot at Mags and then Pyro could nail them.
great piece any way you look at it.
He's good against figures with damage reducers and against opponents who love bunching their figures together - but that's it. For a fire-controlling mutant, it surprises me that Blob does more straight up damage against figures with no damage reduction. I would've preferred high damage on his first click with no penetrating. As he is right now, Pyro barely pings figures without damage reduction, and his penetrating EE becomes useless when based - which will happen quite often due to his short range. His flames really die out when it gets too far away from him? Front loaded ES/D would've been nice, but why bother shooting him from range if you can park a 10 Speed figure with charge just outside his area of attack? Front-loaded Barrier was what made the old IC Pyro a staple of Brotherhood teams back in the day, and that would've made this a better figure for me. He's definitely not going to see that much play time, at least not in my teams.
This piece dominates when used effectively. On a 1000 point theme team used 3 pyros, 2 magnetos, 1 sabertooth, 2 mystiques, a destiny and AV scarlet witch. Double tk'd the pyros into range after perplexing their attacks to 11 and lit up the competition. Double energy explosion w/ penetrating damage is devastating.
Possibly the best sharpshooter in the game. He can really capitalize on range attacks against adjacent characters. Especially if you stick him in the middle of a group of figs. I had reservations at first but I placed him in front of a Caliban and some Hellion(can't remember which)...anyway they had about 3 figs adjacent to them. Penetrating Energy Explosion, while basing is awesome!! You might be tempted to keep him out with the ESD but he was made for getting up into a swarm. That poison at the end (also penetrating) is icing on the fire cake.
Just slap protected on him and he should be fine. I don't have to take that penetrating damage sir. Why? Here's 8 points and I'll just take a push while your figs take damage. Have a nice day!
Always try to leave an internet argument at lvl 1!
He can control huge parts of the board by being very threatening and hard to take out at range, even if his short range means he doesn't get to make a lot of attacks. Mid-dial Barrier lets him team up with Black Tom or a hopefully-upcoming Avalanche for the double barrier shenanigans that the Brotherhood of old was famous for. Not sure that I but that his fire can burn Thanos or Galactus or whatever, but permanent penetrating damage certainly does make for an interesting figure.

I love this guy. Not sure if he's really a sharpshooter kind of guy in the comics. But hey, whatever works. Interestingly, the first Pyro I pulled from a GSX booster was mis-printed with the dolphin speed symbol instead of the boot. So now I got a guy who can hide in river and shoot a flame thrower at you..;-)
Mannnnn, this Pyro has been an absolutely beast character for me. As soon as I pulled him I threw him on a Brotherhood team and he really went to town. Me and a buddy threw down in a little house game the other night and Pyro (with a little tie up help from Red-Hulk) brought down Green Scar and almost Kang the Conqueror. Anytime I have the points for him I like to throw him on a team. His penetrating damage ability is nasty with those poison clicks on his dial.
