Rumor has it reporters are not being discussed as a competitive GenCon team, so I have gathered the greatest minds in the journalism community to prove everyone wrong!
GSX Pyro 74pts.
WoS J. Jonah Jameson 26pts.
SI Spider-man 50pts.
DC 75th 2x Johnny Quick 50pt.x2= 100pts.
2x All-Star Squadron ATA 1pts.x2= 2pts.
BatB Clark Kent 48pts.
Total: 300pts.
Map: Galactus Rooftops
Opening move:
Abuse the rooftops to remove activation clicks on Johnny Quick and Clark Kent and place my pieces in the most strategic areas. This gives me three more perplexes, resulting in four when JJJ is factored in. This burns all three of my actions. Then keep Spider-man outside of JJJ's line of fire from the beginning and copy Pyro's Brotherhood Team Ability. Move him and Pyro freely on the first turn. JJJ rests this turn. Hopefully, next turn I wont feel the pressure to push and clear while moving JJJ up but without line of fire to Spider-man. Then the pain begins.
Piece Strategy:
Pyro brings heavy penetrating damage when mixed with 4 perplex users; he can have 5 penetrating damage or an 8 range to mitigate his below average stat. Also, he can fight off swarms of all kinds with energy explosion and 2. The real gem is the back end poison which will hopefully help against a killbox. Late-dial barrier can possibly help fend off enemy hypersonic-ers.
The two Johnny Quicks have 13 movement and hypersonic speed with either a ten or eleven attack (the All-Star ATA gives him an eleven against any piece 100pts. or above). Then we factor in the perplexes and we can easily have a 5 damage on a map (this is much easier on a map with little blocking terrain). And he has a 17 Defense with Super senses. If I attack with one Johnny each turn, in theory I could have a 13 movement hypersonic, 10-11 attack, 17 Defense with Super senses, and 5 damage monster for 51 points. Think about facing down two of those. Also, if need be, use one of the Johnnys for tie up with his incredibly long reach. This would help Pyro shoot at close range for his 5 penetrating or use the other Johnny to come in for the kill next turn without fear of being shot.
Spider-man is the ultimate tie-up piece. He uses leap/climb to hold off any ranged pieces or harrassers. If not in LoF to JJJ he can use the All-Star ATA for a whopping 11 attack. Also, if I perplex him I can use flurry for possibly 12 damage. So to recap Spidey: 10-11 Attack, 3-6 Damage with Flurry, 17 Defenses with Super senses for 50 points.
Clark Kent is more of a filler, but a good one at that. He could easily be replaced with another Johnny, but this comes at the cost of the ATA which is unacceptable. He really just sits around and perplexes and uses theme probs. It is true that I can push or building jump to get to Superman Alter Ego, but Supes doesn't have perplex. If I need a secondary attacker, I suppose this is an option.
J. Jonah Jameson is great for perplex. I'm using him over the Clark Kent LE because I only have one range reliant figure and the option of AEing to a Superman Ally. He is a bit of a problem and shouldn't ever see Spider-man but this shouldn't be a problem with 4 other figures to move in the way.
Against the big threats:
I want to know if the community thinks this team can defeat killbox teams. My main theory is to assault the box itself with hypersonic reach while ignoring Nightcrawler. Bullseye is a huge threat, but I think can tie him up and kill him with range or use the dual Johnny Quick strategy. Hypersonic bricks might be a threat too. Also, to be honest I'm not going to Gencon, but I was hoping someone would bring this team and win for me!
Not gonna be tagging a nightcrawler if he's in a huddle of hindering, and your hss'ers can't get in close enough to tag him. and never build a team with the intent of usually having your map of choice to work on. that's just a recipe for downfall, imo
"A" is "A". And no matter what universe he's from, Luthor... is Luthor.
I like it!
I actually had a reporter team around si spidey and johnny quick. I wasn't even concious of the fact that pyro had reporter. I can't wait to try the build for myself.

I didn't have much intent on even trying to catch Nightcrawler. I felt if I could kill his killbox with my HSS'ers none of my pieces were high enough points to lose one or two and then run the clock out with crawler pinging for 2 damage and not really being able to push. Also, if I don't get map, I wiggle and push it'll take longer, but oh well.
Plain and simple. Johnny Quick is an amazing piece. This could get far and is not vulnerable to killbox as you have so many characters to draw on. Move one triple-perplexed Johnny forward to lure opposing characters to attack him, and retaliate with his buddies. Pure evilness.
Pyro is very curcumstancial, Clark is a bad piece, J.J.J. is good but Johnny is much better. Btw, the ATA is 2 point a piece.
I talked about this team with a friend when we had a 200 point little guy event. I dont think that either reporter team is meta beats but I like them. It is alot of fun to play.
I ran two spidermans and 1 johnny. The rest was pretty much what Peace listed. I liked playing it though.
