Hi, I don't know if I'm in the right area of the site, but I just had a generic rules question. If I don't change or alter anything on the dial, is it legal to put, say, the sculpt from a Haloclix or Horrorclix fig on a Heroclix dial and use it in tournaments. I'm making some custom Haloclix prior to September and I was wondering if I could use them at my venue seeing how I put them on tournament legal dial. Personally I hardly see how the sculpt of a clix has any effect on the game itself but I just want to get the offical rulling before I go and try to use them outside of friendly games. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
I believe the answer is YES you can use them but, opponent can ask that you use regular sculpt piece. If you do not have it available that's when an issue may come up.
I believe that as long as you tell your opponent that you are using a certain dial, and that you've got a custom/different sculpt on top, and your opponent agrees that you can use it, then it's fine. I do also believe that they 'suggest' you have the actual original unaltered figure with you so that if your opponent does object, you can simply play the real deal.
Trade to Canada. We're friendly, and we love Beavers..........
Yes you can, last time i played at my venue (in the UK) the judge at the tournament, offical tournament, said yes as long as nothing affects game play or any thing like that, you can have any figure on there as long as it doesnt obstruct anything printed.

Okay cool. I was just trying to get some use out of my old actionclix
and extra Heroclix. Next time I go to my venue I'll talk to the judge/owner and get his ruling before I start fielding a team of UNSC Spartan at tournaments just to be safe.
For reference, the policy used to be that you couldn't play any alternate sculpt for a dial that was likely to cause confusion (I can't remember the exact wording). For instance, making a custom sculpt of, say, Deadman would likely be fine because there's only been one of him, but using HoT Cap's dial with the Armor Wars Cap sculpt would likely cause confusion and therefore would probably not have been O.K.

The short answer is "check with your judge." At Nationals or GenCon, where I'll be head judge, the rules will be the same as they've always been and are documented in the Comprehensive Tournament Rules:
Quote
1.2.12 Custom Sculpts: Venues may restrict or allow the use of custom sculpts for their events. A WizKids sponsored event will permit custom sculpts to be used with the following provisions:
1.2.12.1 The dial and figure base must be unchanged from its original form.
1.2.12.2 The sculpt cannot be considered to be a deliberate attempt to misrepresent the capabilities of the played figure. The head judge is the final arbitrator of this decision.
1.2.12.3 The player must have the figure available with the authorized sculpt.
1.2.12.4 Each round, the opponent must be given the opportunity to deny the use of the custom, in which case, the player must accede.
