When shooting up to a character on a different elevation or vice versa...
Does the character on the higher level have to be on the edge of the higher level?
There's a box 1 elevation up that is 3x3, so there's 1 space in the middle touching no edges/rims (is that what they're called?) Can that character in the middle box elevated up shoot at characters down on the ground, and can characters on the ground shoot at him? Does it matter if the character on the ground is in a square adjacent to the elevated terrain?
A character in the bold/underlined square would have the line of fire between it and a character on level 1 blocked by whichever square(s) of level 2 the LOF went through.
You need to be on the rim to shoot or be shot. If you are in the middle square, your line of fire to the lower elevation is blocked. As is any line of fire to you from the lower elevation.
Under normal circumstances with non-giant, non-colossal characters, a character must be on the rim to attack/be attacked from a lower elevation. There are lots of variables and multiple elevations to consider, but that's the basic rule, gotta be on the rim to shoot down/be shot at.

giants and colossals have to be on the rim as well to have LOF to characters on lower elevations.

I'm sure what he meant was that colossals are considered at the highest elevation around them and can shoot characters on the elevated terrain in the center because they are of the same elevation.

My basic understanding is if there are multiple levels of Elevation, like the Fortress of Solitude map. A character on the edge of the highest level may shoot down at a character on the lowest level, but the character on the lowest level may not shoot UP at the character on the highest right? Because it's LOF crosses multiple squares of elevated terrain..
Is this correct, or have we been playing wrong since Superman?

That's Dr. Smart-@$$, thank you, I didn't spend eight years in insult college to be called Mister.

Looks like you have been playing wrong. LoF is always (barring Stealth and other complications) reciprocal, so if a character on the higher elevation can draw LoF to the lower elevation, then the character on the lower elevation can also draw LoF to the higher elevation. And this works only if there are no squares higher than the lower character between the characters.
