Hi all, I was just looking for some insight on comics to get. I'm looking for old-style hero-stops-the-bad-guy-from-robbing-bank storys, wiith superheros in tights, preferrably in contrasting colors. I used to get various xmen titles, but am rather fed up with so much mutant angst. That and the fact that Chuck Austen is going to be on Avengers, pretty much leaves me with the only fantastic Ultimates once every 6 months or so. I'm not terribly familliar with DC heros, so i'd also like something where i can jump on without needing to know a bunch of backstory.
It's in the future, but check out The Legion. Also while not brightly colored, the girls in Birds of Prey thump bad dudes every month, and look good doing it. There is also Formerly Known as The JLA (spandex with humour: 80's or Die!)
For the only true one hundred percent spandex clad Super-hero vs Super-villains on a monthly basis, there is really only one book.
JSA is another book that tends for the classic feel... though the current storyline seems to be featuring a splinter group of vigilantes (not heros), who were formerly allies of the JSA, which will probably soon result in conflict with the JSA.
However, JSA does love its history, which might be off-putting to someone who hasn't read DC before.
The Ultimate books are better because the creators feel free of the massive continuity that they are often trapped by. But now, they are building their own continuity and creating the same problem.
