Just wondering what other's perspectives are on the knockback rules. I personally have never fully understand the reasoning behind them. If anyone can clarify, please do.
I understand that HC isn't designed to be like real life or even like comic life. It can't due to the nature of the game and the desire to provide fair play and strategic challenge. I also understand that some rules seem odd because the ultimate goal is probably to balance game play, putting more emphasis on strategy as opposed to allowing certain rules to be used as a scapegoat for "cheapshots".
With that said, I'll dally for a moment in my issues with Knockback.
First, if Hulk were to critical hit a Lackey, who is then knocked back into another Lackey, I would have a hard time believing both of them would not be out for the count. Instead, the rules state that Lackey #1 would stop in the square just before Lackey #2. It would seem more sensible for both characters to take at least 1 click of damage. And I think this would be a sensible trade-off for all characters, regardless of size and ability (with the exception of soaring characters of course). Knockback is "pure luck" in most cases. Therefore, even if you were to knockback into a Friendly, you may not like it, but it fits more into the big scheme of things.
Second, Knockback off elevated terrain has always seemed to cause some confusion. Similar to above, I think the knocked back character should take its 2 clicks of damage as stated in the rules, but the character below should take 1 click of damage. That's much better than this "magical" ability to just pop back on the roof at the edge if all squares below you are occupied.
Third, it seems they have it totally backwards with the "map edges". Technically, the terrain should continue as normal such that you DON'T hit a wall. But of course, it's out of bounds, so I say just place the character in the last square with no clicks of damage. Instead, the rules currently say that someone knocked off the map takes a click of damage, but someone knocked into another figure takes no clicks of damage!
I agree with what you are saying, too! Or even if you get knocked back into someone, they should receive knockback as well for the amount left from the original knockback. It just makes sense!
