Hired Henchmen normally possess the Underworld TA

would this line mean that if hired henchman lose thier underworld TA when within 8 squares of the boss if the boss does not have Underworld TA?

i ask because the power states "can only use" as opposed to "can only copy"

Its actually a misnomer to say that a wilcard 'copies' abilities.

According to the rulebook, wildcards actually "use" the abilities.

This has lead to 2 definitions of "use"

The wildcard uses batman enemy(Aka 'copy') and now has batman enemy

The wildcard uses batman enemy('make use of') and shares his attack value with an adjacent character.

We have not received a definitive answer as to whether "boss's team abilities" refers to just possessed team abilities or ones they can use and possess.

But really, it's just TAs the Boss has. If they have a Wildcard TA and nothing else, Hired Henchman can't use the Wildcard TA (he is already a Wildcard) and the boss Wildcard only USES the TAs; he NEVER possesses them.

This was in another thread and we disputed, and no orange ruled I believe, but this is the way the text in the Rulebook and hired henchman's card reads. If the boss is a Wildcard, Henchman loses out (a little).

I'm with KCB here...Wildcards can only use Possessed Team Abilities, so therefore, if the Henchman can only copy a Wildcard TA, then he can't since he cannot double-dip TAs and won't be able to copy whatever TA the Boss is copying if the Boss is a Wildcard itself.

It does matter... like I said in the other thread.

If the first definition(aka can copy) is the intention, then sure, the boss has to actually possess the team ability.

If the second defintion(aka make use of) is the intention, then we need to know if "boss's team abilities" refers to possess or both possess and 'can use'.

If it is both the second defition(aka make use of) and "boss's team abilities" is defined as both possess and 'can use', then the minion could pick a wildcard boss, and then wildcard to the same team ability that the boss has wildcarded too.

The last IF is the one which I think would be the best for building interesting teams, especially because a lot of the important pieces are coming back as wildcards(Joker) or only 'can use' team abilities(Two-Face).

I thought they ruled it in the other thread? Or am I mixing things up?

No. He will have Underworld TA and Wild Card. Wild Card does not replace the printed TA. The "can only use" is referring to the Wild Card can only use the Boss' TA.

That's right. No Oranges there. I was convinced by normal folks. And I remain convinced. Henchman copies the WC TA only, and is not able to use it.

Of course, validation would be nice, but I think I'm satisfied in the meantime.

I would think it self evident that Hired goons would not be able to copy or use or however you want to phrase it that he cannot obtain uncopyable TAs through his Sp.
