How can I make my Scientist Team better? (1200pts)
300 Superman
225 Maelstrom
123 Professor X
113 Alex Luthor
100 Mr. Fantastic SI#101
97 Rip Hunter
47 Mole Man
38 AIM Agent
38 AIM Agent
15 Researcher
15 Researcher
15 Researcher
15 Gauntlet with Power Gem on Maelstrom
20 Brilliant Tactician on Mr. Fantastic
Still have 39 points that I can put in. I’ve never found Fortitude helpful on Superman or loading the Gauntlet more. Is there another character I can add? Maybe another AIM Agent to join the attackers on the field? Or is there a better character I can replace Alex or Rip with? I’ve tried Mr. Sinister but I didn’t do much with him. Maybe Modok? Doom? Or should I load up gauntlet and/or add feats? I should be getting the Bat Belt soon and maybe I can put that on Professor for Indom?
My strategy could also use some help:
Professor X is surrounded by Researchers and the AIM Agents. The Agents are facing the main team to be able to perplex them as well. Mr. Fantastic is surrounded by everyone else. I always choose to go second if I can.
Mr. Fantastic Perplexes up Superman's attack and everyone else’s defense. Mole Man Mind Controls Maelstrom to TK Superman next to a heavy object. Other guys move up near superman with Maelstrom in the front. Four outwits and a perplex still up at the front. Superman then Hypersonics to hit someone. Prof gets his attack perplexed up twice to blast thru someone. Second turn I push to move Mole Man into hindering and stealth near Maelstrom. And usually push Luthor to attack.
Everyone always goes for Superman first. So by the time he’s dead the gauntlet is close to the special power and Maelstrom is either still at full or at him better clicks.
What can I improve? Critiques are much appreciated.
I'm not a big fan of the Alex Luthor figure. I'd say drop that and look for some other figures. If you drop Alex and with the points you have, that's 152 points. Personally, I think I'd try to add Chief for 63 points to this team and with his manipulate tokens possibly giving Prof X the ability to push and not take damage. That would leave you 89 points to use. From there I would probably add the LE Atom from the Cosmic Justice set and put Brilliant Tactician on him as well. His 20 defense (plus perplex if used correctly), stealth and JLA free move makes him a perfect compliment for Prof X to shoot through.
Keep in mind my criticism is constructive, my goal is only to help.

I never recommend playing him at 300. Two at 150 is always better. Or maybe one at 150 and like a Dr. Strange.

Hmmm... Maesltrom is a tough piece to use. You are usually reliant on your opponent putting him on his good clicks, which is never a strategy I like. Even if you hit Ultimate Godhood until he gets to his later clicks his stats aren't great. As such I would rather see someone like Stranger. He can manipulate the Gauntlet much more effectively and much quicker. Failing him Thanos, Dr. Doom, a Kang someone like that would be good.

Good.

You can't use a Belt and a Gauntlet, so that's out. Really I wouldn't mind seeing a few more Brilliant Tacticians. One on Professor X for sure. It's best on people who can draw LOF's easy. Like PX, a Giant, Colossal etc... or like Dr. Strange.
You have a pretty good team, I think a few tweaks could make it really good.
BUT, here's my thoughts on 1200- Figures are packed together, as such it BEGS for Nova Blast. The 160pt Brainiac is perfect for it. I might even try to fit in 2 of them and some TK like Dr. Alchemy. For around 400 (Maelstrom, Superman down to 150, and your spare points) you could probably do 10 damage to almost every figure on the opponent's team.
Hope that helps.
aqhoffman- greatest post possibly ever
jtallday- Jon I wouldn't challenge you if I wasn't sure you are wrong cuz I don't have that kind of energy.
I looked at the LE Atom and I like it. Good Tie Up Piece. Chief is pretty cool too, I should have him next week. Atom will be harder to get. Why don't you like Alex?
@jonidschultz
Hmmm, why no Superman at 300? What about exchanging him for the Tabb App Supes? Or fitting in Metron or Thanos #45? I'd really love to keep Maelstrom in, but I can try it a few different ways for sure.
Efficiency. One 300pt Superman is one target and can attack once, for 5 damage plus an object, so 7. Two 150pt Superman's is two targets for the opponent, and can each attack once for 4 damage, 6 with an object. So your attack goes down by 1 but you can potentially do 12 damage instead of 7.

Hmm, I could see TabApp. Metron or Thanos are both great. Chief, Tomar Re (12 range). There's a lot of great Scientists. One of the most potent keywords out there for sure.

Oooh, I just realized TabApp Supes isn't a Scientist. Oh well.

Alex is very underwhelming to me. For 113 points I would expect a higher attack. Even with perplex to give him a 10, there are too many 18s out there for him to hit consistently.
Case in point: Even the 60 point Klaw gets a 10 attack to start.
Even the 100 point leader with TK would be a better option than Alex to me. Less points and tons more mobility with TK.
ive been wanting to use the belt on prof and prime it to +2 stats and give him willpower. never really liked malestrom, alex luthor and 300 supes. 150 thanos and 150 supes is better. personally, highlander isnt an issue then use another supes or 2 if you dump malesrtom and luthor. 10th iron man is a good choice to help negate other resouce users.
other than that its a great team.

I like Ben Reilly, he x-man heals prof x and hurting him is not a bad thing b/c then you can go into scarlet spider and get a cheap late string attacker, also I'm a big fan of 85pt redskull with full gauntlet and 3 hydra techs, SI Spiderman is also a classic, scientists are super deep CA 60 pt claw is also really good, and George Tarleteron is an old forgotten gem
malestorm is kind of gimmicky if your opponent doesn't feel like looking at his dial before the game starts they are probably done for, but do him the right amount of damage and he does nothing. Doom/Kang is a great combo with prof X I can't even suggest a team because it is literally one of my favorite keywords
Played another game against a friend who primed himself for this specific team with four Repulsor Shields. His team was this:
300 Black Adam +40 Full Gauntlet +25 RS
350 Brainiac +25 RS
169 Lobo
160 Lex Luthor +25 RS
130 Zoom +25 RS
120 Deathstroke
As I was typing that I realize that it was 169 points over 1200... yikes. Wish I realized that last night.
Anyway, my team was this since I haven't recieved Metron, Thanos, Atom, Chief and Barry Allen yet:
Maelstrom +20 pt Gauntlet +Stunning Blow
Modok
Iron Man (Ultimates 154pts)
Superman 150pts +Not so Special
Professor X
Mr. Fantastic +Brilliant Tact
Mole Man +Thwart
Spiderman (SI) 50pts
Aim Agent x2
Researcher x3
I held my own for a long time, slowly chipping away at Brainiac and perplexing down his stats with Mr Fantastic but towards the end he hit like 4 Impervious rolls. Then I hit Black Adam onto his Hypersonic click and he started running around and healing with the gauntlet all over the place.
I'm sure there will be a rematch, but I'm gonna wait until I get the other figures.
Any advice for dealing with this team using with Repulsor Shields again? (Likely minus Lobo)
SI Mr. Fantastic gives you the +2 bump, which is great, but for a discussion of options, Professor X is good too. He can use his power through everyone else he shares a keyword with, so you never need to worry about line of fire.
In general in big games like this Psychic Blast and Pulse Wave are huge. You'll most likely see Power Cosmic-type figures with damage reducers. Superman can make a good 7 or 8 damage attack, all of which can be ignored with an Impervious roll.
My H/W link does not reflect the wants for my collection, it is a list of figures that I already have, but still "want" to play.
