He could pulsewave for 0 squares (the square he was in), or you could perplex up his range.

I'm talking about the main Avengers book where Wolverine recruits Cannonball and Sunspot when they were "retired" and living on the beach to join the Avengers. They were even part of a "featured team" article recently detailing a mission they were in as Avengers.

Well, one of the best ways to overcome ignorance is explanation. These characters "exist" beyond the little plastic figures, some of them for a LONG time. Getting a clue into the specific of what the figures are supposed to represents really isn't that hard. No panty-twists here, just some insight for conversation.
