I haven't read much of doctor strange, but the character interests me. If you had $30 and could only get 1 graphic novel, what doctor strange book would you get?
If you like silver age stuff, get the Marvel Masterworks Doctor Strange vol. 1 TPB. Great psychedelic Ditko art, and it contains several multi-part stories that really give a sweeping feel to Strange's early exploits. Plus, you should be able to get it online for $15-$20, which would leave you some money to buy the Marvel Premiere Classic Hawkeye book by Gruenwald and Stern.
(...okay, or a Fraction Hawkeye TPB, although that's not my cup of tea)

Forget 1. Buy 2!
You can get the Essential Dr Strange volume 1 and 2 for around $30 easily.
"When the going gets weird, the weird go pro." - Hunter S. Thompson"
"Victim? Victim? Do you think this letter on my chest stands for AMERICA?" - you have been getting insulted by nextwave.

Agreed. The "Marvel Essential Dr. Strange volume 1" was a book a friend of mine let me borrow and read and allowed me to like the character.
The Hawkeye recommend comes, because it's Matt Fraction writing a solo title, where his strength lies. Coincidentally, my same friend mentioned earlier also let me borrow the initial run of Immortal Iron Fist by Fraction, where I learned of Fraction's strength, as well as Essential Iron Fist volume 1, which gave the proper background to the elements and characters used in Immortal Iron Fist under Fraction. Sweet Christmas, it's good reading.

I wasn't able to get "the oath" as it was out of stock. Looks like its off to the bays. I did find the Dr. & Dr. Book where they go to hades to retrive Doom's mom's soul. Good so far.
Um .... what does Hawkeye have to do with Strange? Someone wanna fill me in?
I just figured if jackstar7 was going to sneak in a plug for his favorite Hawkeye author, I'd sneak in one for mine.
Good to hear that you liked the Strange/Doom book, too. I was thinking about picking it up, but that positive feedback may have tipped it onto the definite 'buy' list. Another Strange collection I picked up recently was the Marvel Premiere 'Into the Dark Dimension' HC. It looked really good when I glanced through it, although that's still on my 'to read' stack, so I can't confirm that impression for sure quite yet.
