I talk about about the Fear Itself 6 suggested format and it's obvious shortcomings.

I've been running 600-point events using TWO Fear Itself boosters, plus the allowed extras (Book, Hammers, relics, ATA). The Fear Itself boosters (with no others mixed in) play GREAT in this format. The booster contents are enough to use as much of your boosters as you want, and there has yet to be a player who couldn't build a competitive 600-point force out of their boosters.

I don't enjoy BIG events with a lot on the line being played with anything but sealed. I grok the desire to use the prizes (or the Horde Tokens, or the other figures from the Blitzkrieg sets), but I just don't see it being fun. Perhaps my mind will change after AvX, but I am skeptical.

Should the boosters then have included a Thor/Loki/etc. so that those figures could possibly make an appearance in the finals, as per Wizkids' suggested format?

We've also been playing 2 FI boosters for the most part, and the fact that most characters lack range really makes the set work great, as you said.
