Like I said earlier the only real reason I would like it changed is to make it easier to explain why figures like M10 Iron Man and Outback Hulk still get dinged by mystics. Especially Hulk, his power says all damage!
Functionally I don't think anyone is going to argue that it doesn't work just fine; I just really hate edge cases (and they changed Dormammu).
I think I pretty clearly laid out why it doesn't work as written.

You said it doesn't work, someone agreed with you, and now you're saying you don't think anyone is going to argue that it doesn't work? Put your Judge hat on. Does the power reduce penetrating damage as written?
I think it's fine as-is, but this turned into a "can't can't be trumped" discussion, so I showed other instances where the rule book's instances of "can't" are superseded by other things. Are you okay with those examples I gave or do you think that those don't really work?
I wish it would have been released with language like you suggested, normal damage or regular damage, just to keep similar effects worded consistently. However, when I look at this special power in relation to the current rules documents, I say it works fine and don't think errata is necessary.

I think that technically it doesn't work for the same reason that Dormammu didn't work and Ironman and Hulk do not work. However, I also think it would be insane for anyone to rule that he doesn't do what he said.
I also think that the examples you gave are great counter examples, and in thinking about it more I don't think I'd have a problem with it at all if not for the three I previously mentioned (unless we want to revisit them!!).

Understood.
I'm more of a black & white kinda guy; either it works or it doesn't. 0's and 1's, on or off.
I think this was a great discussion and we'll see if it fizzles out or if anyone else can add something new.

Just like it's insane to rule that Avengers Moon Knight can't use his Perplex successfully? *shrug* Yeah, that example again, but you have to admit, it casts a shadow over all subsequent "We know what it's supposed to do!" arguments.

Absolutely. It's just another reason I want it cleaned up
