While playing in a game , my opponent was using Malekith .
My opponent said that my figs. can't use their defenses against his attacks .
So whenever he attacks -and- makes the roll , my figs. are automatically hit .
Now check out what it says on Malekith's card concerning his trait . . . .

Now it seems to me that , I can use my figs. defense powers to avoid Malekith'sinitial attack -or- reduce damage to 0 with Impervious .
My question is :
Can I use my figs' defense against Malekith's first attack ?

Yes, but allow me to clarify.
You are correct that Malekith has to make a successful attack first (a hit). Before you can determine if a character is hit, you would get to apply any reroll effects (Probability Control), any evasion effects (Super Senses), and any modifiers (Combat Reflexes, Energy Shield/Deflection).
Now...once a character is successfully hit, Malekith's effect would kick in (before damage is dealt). This means that any other defense powers (Toughness, Impervious, Invincible, etc.) would not be able to be used by the character.

We were under the understanding that SS wouldn't work because the wording for Super Senses states when a character is hit.
SUPER SENSES: When this character is hit by an attack, you may roll a d6 before damage is dealt. On a result of or 5, 6 this character evades the attack.
I'm sorry about the balls. It was just a lucky shot.

It has been ruled by the oranges that SS can still turn a hit into a miss. There are other powers that this also applies to (which I can't remember right now) and the rulings have been consistent on this.
But what I really wanted to post about was how awesome In the Mouth of Madness is. My favorite part was when Trent wakes up and everything is blue.

Is it still ruled that "defense powers" only refer to powers that are actually showing in the defense slot of the dial?
E.g. If the character has a damage reducer through a trait or a SP in any other slot on the dial he/she/it could still use that.
Malekith causes more problems for us than any other figure. He's a beast. Can I also just check a ruling.
To stop him doing all of his awesome stuff (or a lot of it) the trick is to Outwit his Power Cosmic and then Outwit the desired effect. Is that correct?

It would have worked if the game effect in question wasn't a trait so it cannot be countered. Unless, of course, there is a character, now or in the future, that can counter traits, or in any other way turn it off.

Yeah. I know his 'Super Destroy Defences' power is happening so long as he hits. I followed the rulings on that closely and it all makes sense (which is scary). Beyond that though just his general powers are blindingly good and Power Cosmic stops him being Mind Controlled as far as I'm aware, so if PC is Outwitted could I then MC him and have him dance his merry jig on his own team?

Yes it has been ruled by the oranges and I can agree that is the intent of the power but it contradicts the wording. If SS said "if this character would be hit" then the ruling would be quite clear.
