Becoming a pilot does not remove the action tokens from the character. They are cleared on the turn when the character did not get an action token.
This is correct.
Whenever a character is removed from the map they do not "automatically" clear their action tokens. Those tokens remain with them while off the map. They do not clear until that character could/would normally clear. So if you take a Power Action/Double Power Action to remove your character from the map (doesn't matter how just that you are no longer on the map), then your character has their action token(s) still. The following turn if your character remains off the map it would clear it token(s) at the end of your turn.
So with Grasshopper, you would activate Maximum Jump taking a Double Power Action and be removed from the Map. While Removed from the Map you would take a click of Pushing Damage and have two action tokens assigned. At the beginning of your next turn you would place him anywhere on the Map with two action tokens. At the end of that turn if you did not take a non-Free Action you would clear those tokens.
IMO - Maximum Jump is best used to either tie up an opposing figure (not bad for a 33 point investment) or to have him run back to a healer (if you care to heal a 33 point character).
All in all I actually really like the power for GLA as they are a slower team and Grasshopper can buy them the time they need to get into position and set up Monkey Joe for that Kill Shot

This confirms my belief that Grasshopper is more of a conversation piece than a worthwhile unit.
Oh NOOOOO a character from the Great Lakes Avengers isn't a lean mean power-slingin' machine, it's almost as if he was designed to be weird and silly rather than an auto-include on every team ever WHAOAOaooaaA WHAATTTT
