Hello, a little bit of an inquiry. Is knock back damage separate from the attack damage or is it rolled all into one? I feel like damage is assigned in the order attack damage, then knock back damage due to knock back is applied after damage is taken. Is this correct?

It is indeed a separate instance of damage.
For example, I hit your character with invulnerability with an attack that deals 3 damage and knockback.
He would take 1 click of damage, turn the dial, and then be knocked back.
If this knocks him into a wall/blocking terrain/map edge/higher elevation, he would then be dealt 1 knock back damage.
If he still has invulerability or another damage reducing power, he can reduce this damage as well.

That is all correct except that knocking a non-flier off a ledge (from a higher to a lower elevation) causes 2 damage.
I realize knock back stopping on top of a character against blocking terrain may be more of a fringe case, but it seems to happen a lot when I play my friends. According to the rules, it doesn't cause damage to either character. However, it seems like it should to me because the second character is, technically, getting smashed between the first one and whatever terrain it's against.
How do you more experienced Clixers feel about that?

It's probably best not to get bogged down comparing Heroclix to real life physics. Any power or effect that does damage without requiring an attack is great, making knockback more powerful is not really necessary (imho).
