I wanted to chime in with this
I dislike this ruling. He has never been clear as to why non Marvel/ DC / Street fighter products were ruled to be Golden age.
Judges aren't WK head honchos.

And now we have a product that seems to state in the rule book that comes with it that it should be modern age. A corrupt orange has now ruled it golden age.

I know this thread is old, but it seemed like the best place for me to post an observation. Yugioh is not modern age, but the suggested format of the Yugioh tournaments is build a force that is 1/2 Yugioh figures, so while Modern is not intended to include Yugioh, apparently Yugioh is intended to include other modern figures. ???

Do they actually say the other half should be "modern"?

True, it only says that half your force must be made of Yugioh, so I guess Yugioh is Golden Age. Still, for the Yugioh OP tournament, Yugioh can be mixed with main stream Heroclix, but main stream Heroclix cannot be mixed with Yugioh. Huh?
I guess WK felt it necessary to make all the meta of regular Heroclix available to Yugioh.

If I am mixing Yu-Gi-Oh with Marvel and DC pieces, then I am mixing Marvel and DC pieces with Yu-Gi-Oh.
GA events allow for all Heroclix. Floor events require a certain amount of some specific set/brand.
This is no different than Wizkids suggesting that for Angel or Psylocke or Rogue that the event be GA, 50% WatX floor.
And in the end it's just that; A suggested format that the judge/venue can modify if they want to.
Have a problem with people playing Marvel or DC (or Pacific Rim, or Gears of War, or Halo, or Iron Maiden, or Lone Ranger, or Street Fighter, or Bioshock, or...) figures during the Yu-Gi-Oh tourney?
Talk to the venue/judge about making it Yu-Gi-Oh only.

Our judge has already made the Yugioh events, Yugi only; which I support. I just find it funny that WK has release a set which is golden legal only in regular Heroclix, and then turned around to make a format that encourages mixing Yugioh with all other products.
Lets see, I will play Gate Guardian who protects all friendly characters from range if they are within 4. Add the utility belt with cowl so this giant character has stealth. Finally, some entities to pump up his running shot / pulsewave combo; which does 3 to all hit characters and gives an action token. Sounds like a great way to introduce Yugioh players to Heroclix
Isn't everything that's codified as "Golden Age" tacitly meant to mixed with all other forms of clix?
I don't see any difference between this and the LotR clix.
I mean, I still think the whole Golden Age/Modern Age thing is a steaming pile of mumakil droppings... but in this particular case it seems pretty consistent with how things are generally done/presented.

Because every other GA-only set made before Yu-Gi-Oh appeared were never a thing, I guess?
It was only with Yu-Gi-Oh that somehow it started to matter? Only with Yu-Gi-Oh is it a bad thing to mix in other licenses?
And if your judge is changing the event then why even post here complaining?

An observation I've had with Yu-Gi-Oh clix is it seems they tried to make them their 'own' thing, so they put them in Golden Age. And the more I've looked at the Yu-Gi-Oh clix, the more I've been raising my eyebrows. If they were allowed into the 'Standard' tournament scene, I could see several of these figures becoming absurdly powerful. A lot of the Yu-Gi-Oh clix are grossly under costed for what they accomplish, and seemed to be designed almost purposefully to play against themselves, and not the mainstream line of figures.
I don't play many tournaments, in fact I played my first one in over 10 years just yesterday (Saturday). I would probably cry and walk away if I saw a Dark Magician on the table with any of the many ridiculous resource dials out there these days. The Magician is so damn good by himself, but loading up on those resources...it's just...vomit inducing!
Now, as a set that seems to work well under it's own rules, the Yu-Gi clix are fun as hell to play. I've enjoyed playing small games with them, and the sculpts and everything are pretty damn good. But...I think they seem to suited for Golden Age.
As for Mix and Match for Yu-Gi organized play, it does seem kind of double standardish to allow current figures in a YGO event, but not allow YGO figs in a current tournament setting.

Locally, we'll be running the YGO event as "YGOnly". Allowing for the typical non-YGO HeroClix game effects to be added from the 'Modern Age' into a YGO event strikes me as a little mean-spirited. YGO players can't bring their figures to Modern Age events, but the first YGO event series is encouraging Modern Age pieces to be used in it? Definitely a double-standard at work.

There are far more absurdly powerful game pieces from the comic properties than from any of the non-comic properties. I remember the panic caused by the GoW/Halo "Throw a Grenade" mechanic...some players may still think it is the 'most borken thing ever' for all I know. My opinion is that pieces from sets that a significant number of folks don't buy (or play) because of lack of interest in the property (GoW, Halo, Pacific Rim, Lone Ranger, TabApps, LotR) inspire a weird mixture of anxiety and apprehension from those non-buyers when the pieces appear on the map in front of them.
Every once in a while there is a figure from such a set that is particularly (ab)useful, such as Ghost Widow or Arwen, but it is very rare that there is a single-dial click from those sets that doesn't feel like every other HeroClix figure. Having played with the YGO figures, I am not sure they are under-costed. There definitely are some tricks, and the better pieces (IMO) are the rarer ones.

Thank you for share, because this so well sums up what I find ironic about this situation with Yugioh OP.
