I will take an all or nothing stance to this ruling. Either all character dials can be referenced by the player from Infinity Challenge to current or no dials can referenced by the players. I'm not allowing select figures or sets to have that distinct advantage, as it does nothing for the game but hurt it's legitimacy...
I suppose to each their own, but this strikes me as a weird stance. Many changes to the Heroclix rules over the years, as well as the very clear changes in dial design and power creep have very regularly given advantages to newer pieces over older pieces. I view this in an identical manner. Some figures already have the distinct advantage of having more powers available than others (those clixed in the days before pink powers for example). Some have the distinct advantage of having traits or improved movement/targeting available, while older ones do not. This did not signal the end of clix or the end of mixing the old with the new.
If some guy wants to play a Mysterio from Web of Spider-Man and I am playing a Mysterio from Superior Foes of Spider-Man, I get the advantage of seeing my dial on the back of my card. He does not.
While that may provoke a prickly feeling or two, I'd hardly call it game-breaking. My opponent may have memorized his pieces dial or close enough to minimize any advantage I get from knowing my dial. Knowing my dial doesn't mean I know how to best utilize it in a game.
Furthermore, over time and many sets later, there will be an increasingly large selection of pieces that will all have dials printed on the backs of their cards. At one point, all Modern figures will have this feature. Golden age players don't have to play figures without dials if they feel they are so utterly inconvenienced, although I am highly skeptical that the inconvenience will be overwhelmingly obstructive.
...now, if we can just get Professor Pyg confirmed.

If you need some examples that are even more on point: some Clix have cards, and some don't. That doesn't mean my opponent gets to know what powers my Origin Green Lantern has coming up on his dial. Some Clix have click numbers, and some don't. That doesn't mean I get to ask my judge whether my Hammer of Thor Sif is on click 7 or click 8 before I push her to death.
