If I am making a melee attack using exploit weakness against a character that has invincible, and having a damage of 1, and are successful, with both in clear terrain, does the opponent take 1 damage due to the penetrating damage of exploit weakness, or if the opponent is able to use the invincible, how do you apply the half damage?
Hammer of Thor: First appearance, Tales of the Unexpected #16.
Penetrating damage is damage that cannot be reduced. Invincible doesn't reduce damage, it ignores it*. It ignore half the damage, and in HeroClix you always round up. So, in your scenario, it would ignore half of one, rounded up to one, and take no damage.
*Invincible will be changing in the near future with the upcoming rules updates.
Thank you for your reply. So are you saying in this case the opponent would not take any damage, even if exploit weakness was not part of the attack?
EDIT, Sorry Lantern, I asked this question before I saw your post. Thanks to both of you for the explanation.
No, until the rule change Invincible allows a character to ignore half the damage dealt to them the only time a character would be dealt 0 damage is if that character is dealt 1 damage because it then get's halved which the power then ignores. So if Hulk smacks a character for five damage and that character has Invincible the character takes 2 damage because the damage is first halved and then ignored. This is once instance where the player does not round up instead the player rounds down, because the damage is halved it means Hulk is dealing 2.50 clicks and Invincible takes the .50 remainder and ignores the half click of damage so there is nothing to round up.

You always round up, period. You're correct about the outcome, but very wrong about the process.

all rounding in Heroclix is rounding up.
you hit me for 5. I get to ignore half. I divide 5 by 2, getting 2.5. I round that result up, to three. I get to ignore three and I take 2.
That's not you rounding down, it's me rounding up.
As noted, you have the right answer, but took the wrong path to get there.

Always round up like LanternJordan says, but invincible doesn't halve the damage. It ignores half. That half that is ignored is what is rounded up.
