Ever face a figure or team you can't seem to take down? Then this is the series for you. We take a deeper look into those problematic pieces and Exploit their Weaknesses! In this edition, we take a look at one of our former Presidents that has returned to satisfy his hunger for brains!
Click "Full Story" below as we analyze this awesome figure and Exploit its Weaknesses
Thanks for joining me in another installment of Exploiting Weaknesses! As with the other articles' precursors, Pulse Wave will not be discussed as it is almost always effective. If it isn't effective, I will point out why.
Here is the dial for reference.
Things that tell me I need to find a Booth Ancestor:
- Long Dial
- Solid top half stats and powers
- Zombie Horde
- Tallest of the Horde
- Four score and seven years ago
Exploiting Abe's Weaknesses
Honest Abe here is a pretty cool idea. Not only that, he toes the line between a good beat stick and useful support piece. Having 3 starting lines you can tailor him to fit whatever roll you want. 150 points is a 10 click monster (pun intended) that sports a high defense and 4 clicks of Invincible. At 60 points we get 6 clicks and a good secondary attacker and support piece. At 40 points we see the attack prowess go away completely and becomes a 4 click support piece. Whatever shoes (or size hat) he needs to fill for the team, he will. Fortunately for us, he is a zombie and has little to no actual usable brains left. This means we will easily be able to outwit any of his powers that are troublesome. Those 4 clicks on Invincible come to mind immediately. Having the ability to shut that down while your team piles on will be majorly helpful. Granted, the 18 defense will be a little harder for our 11-10 attacks so we can pack a few helpful powers. Perplex can help us or downgrade him. With how the duration works now, I like to perplex down the defense as even if I damage him, my team will benefit from this downgrade. RCE/CCE will help the attack and/or damage we are dealing so we can use these to help us get a better chance at hitting. No need to boost the damage too far if we also outwitted the defense already! Once you get him to click 5, you won't have to worry about him doing much damage to the team as he struggles with reducers and high enough stats in the attack slot.
Looking at the special stuff going on, he has a couple cool ones. The first being the Zombie Horde trait. Really good on zombie horde teams but slightly less useful when not being used that way. This allows him to choose either MOVE or CLOSE actions to not count against your action total. In a Zombie Horde, this will allow all his friends and himself to move without spending any actions from the pool. Or on the other end, if they are already in clawing and biting range, all of them will attack without depleting you of precious actions! This can be devastating and something we can't get rid of. Best thing here is just get out of the way and hope you can keep your distance. Most have 5 move or less so you should be able to do this. When he is by himself on a team, this is still useful as his actions won't count against your opponent. This is particularly useful because if they need him in position for a tie up or use of FSASYA damage special or to be carried away, they can do so without getting rid of their limited actions.
Being the Tallest of the horde allows him to stretch those legs a little further and be useful on the battlefield. Providing Charge and Sidestep means he has a threat range of...drum roll please...5 squares!!!! Yeah, it isn't super great but if he is with the Horde, chances are you have been tied up with other zombies giving him time to get up there. And once he does, it allows all his zombie buddies to attack your same figure for free! So let's say they all move up and surround you on 8 sides. That is 8 free attacks on you, ouch! Or, what if they were already there? Well that is 8 free attacks and then with Z-Horde trait they can attack again without depleting the action pool! 16 attacks, yikes! Our easiest way to deal with this is again Outwit but we can also get by in having him take 3 clicks or more of damage and staying 7 squares or more away from him.
Finally, we have a speech we need to take seriously. Four score and seven years ago (from this point forward abbreviated as 87) will give us fits once we get him lower on the dial or if he starts there already. 87 gives his buddies a nice boost. If the roll is a 4 or 7 (7 is most common in case you hadn't been keeping up on Practically Tactical), they can either remove a token from the attacker or give one to the target. This has an absurd amount of synergy with Zombies in particular. If they are all rolling 7s, your whole team is going to be tokened out! Please note, this is not incap so pushing damage will apply but not the penetrating damage if you aren't able to assign a token. On the flip side, if he is teamed with a non-zombie team, he will still be able to keep tokens off his main attacker buddies or help dish opportune tokens to their targets. If you are running Jakeem, you can bet that even if they miss with a roll that was a 4 or 7, you will be taking a token, forcing you to take a push damage or have to pick willpower next turn if you were going to attack. The ability to stay tokenless or token you up is something that gives your opponent a huge advantage. Fortunately it relies on rolls that happen a combined 25% of the time. We can also outwit this but chances are, you won't be able to draw a bead on him easily and not worth it if played at 60 or 40 points. He doesn't need to be adjacent so he can hide far away from the battle. We could send one of our secondary or tertiary guys after him at that point because chances are he won't hit you and you can get through the dial quickly. Even at 40 points you only need to deal 2 damage or more to get rid of the power.
That's all I have this time! Now that we have hopefully beheaded him, check back in 2 weeks while we take on his Ghost! Until next time, always look for the chinks in the armor and Exploit your opponent's Weaknesses!
him and death were my top wanted figs from that set. so insane how good that power is. even if you roll that 4 or 7 in a miss you're handing out tokens. zombie abe ends up on just about every team out there, but LOVES teaming up with his fellow monsters.
