Had a great time playing Starro on his 100 point dial last night and thought of a potential tactic afterwards:

Could Starro mind control a character who has an item equipped and have them unequip it (by dropping it) during the move portion of the mind control?

I don't see why not, but could certainly be wrong.

There is no Unequip action in the game. You can never choose to unequip something that's equipped to a character.

You're getting that mixed up with just holding an object. If they are holding an object, yes you can choose to drop the object during the move.

So I can't just drop the equipped item (which unequips it) with the inherent pick-up or drop when moving?

No. As AEnima stated, you seem to be conflating picking up/dropping objects with the EQUIP mechanic. They're two entirely separate things. Equipped items are not held objects, and vice versa.

As an aside, I have a character equipped with an item. To unequip it, I state my intent and simply drop it, right? I'm looking at one of the gem cards which state:

EQUIP: ANY
UNEQUIP: DROP

There is no way to unequip a character without doing something else that the rules say will unequip, such as being equipping something else, being replaced or KO'd.

Unequip: Drop means that it is dropped when unequipped, as opposed to KO'd
