Is it too late for me to tell him to #### off and make his own way there as I'm the driver?
I'd say no, but you should ask on the WES to be safe.
PS for my money, it's almost impossible to police intent... and regardless of intent, purposefully not playing the game shouldn't be a possible strategy, no matter how viable. That's something I feel Wizkids should be responsible for, though (not that I'm holding my breath).
His argument is that I regularly build frustrating and unique teams and that this is no different than my odd builds frustrating him at a local tournament on a weekday evening. He seems totally, and sadly, blinded to the fact that this isn't just frustrating and it totally removes a player from the game.
By "frustrating and unique" do you mean "top tier power builds?"
Longest-Reigning Drunken HeroClix Champion - anyone got a liver?
Honestly I think its a waste of time to play against the team, but no one should really complain that they go into a game with no better than a 50% chance of winning. If you lose so what? You might have lost a match on a 50-50 roll later in the game any way.
I understand if someone becomes upset about the waste of time, but if you got upset about losing to the team at a large competitive event because you lost I would consider DQing you.

I'm not saying police intent. He should absolutely be allowed to play it unless they specifically rule otherwise with ample time and notice. I am saying I would think he is a dick based on intent, but he should never be DQ'ed

Sadly this is my fault. It began as a joke between the group of players I am travelling too UK Nationals with over what is the stupidest team you could play in the constructed qualifier if you've already made it through the sealed qualifier?
Sadly, some of the most annoying teams start that way. I'm sure the Structural Integrity Field teams were a similar thing when it first came up.

Exactly. If I were "that guy," I'd be worried about seeing anyone I faced later that day as some people take this way too seriously.

Also agreed. Whether people hate him for it (as many did for people that used the Superman Yo-yo, SIF-team, or other builds that forced significant rule changes), the option has been created and needs to be addressed.
-Heroclix is not a game of logic, it's a game of strategy .... after all, when's the last time that you saw a giant (using a stealth ability) that was hiding behind a swingset... and nobody could SEE him????
Bottomline, if one could consistently win with it, you'd see a ton of people playing it.
I have to wonder how folks' attitudes would change in that situation.
That would make it sif 2.0. We know people's attitudes about that (by looking at sif). Mostly I've seen that regarded as an inexcusable failure of the rules team. I personally view this the same way (actually I have for a while, noted on any of my posts regarding the capture vs OMA endgame).
Note that the problem is the rules team, not the player with the team being used.
fyi i think this is really funny and im glad it exists, just because the idea of three grasshoppers staring down some huge metabeast team and saying "NOPE" and bailing from the fight being supported by the rules owns

I disagree the choice was made by GD, they have known how this mechanic functions for along time.
If they didnt want it to work that way they have all kinds of wording options they could have used and have used in the past to force the character to be KOed if all other friendly characters are off the map.

I stand corrected. I have been around long enough to know that Gd and rules team are different.
cant you just possess a sandman a bunch to get around that and first turn smoke cloud for the roll off
Same problem, different figure.
For some reason, up until now, I was thinking that only one Entity could possess any given figure, but I don't see any such restriction on the trait... so you could potentially have 9 Entities (several hundred dollars worth of figures that would have cost around $2,000 when they were new) on one figure and choose 1 power and 1 stat between all of them (with the exception of 2 for Ion). Wow... both on the variety of options and the complete waste of money. LOL!
