I accept your apology. Again, I understand that to many this is a scary policy. All I'm trying to do is make people see this is not the end of their armies.

As for retirement not being a ban. Well if an item is not allowed in standard supported use then I think that is a ban.
you might think of this as a ban but it is not. If a unit were to be banned, you could not play it anywhere except for excrement and giggles. These sets are being retired, you can still play them at venues that schedule unrestricted evetns (any venue, with any BM at any time they schedule them. There might or might not be prize support, but you still can play.)

Re releasing old units as new units is definatly an aweful idea. I have probably been quite lucky in many of my draws and I may have a chance to pull one of my old units out of a booster in a future release. But I think it is wrong that I should have to.
Ok.... I understand. But in this situation you can't have it both ways. Either some units are reprinted and rereleased (meaning you don't have to buy the new ones, you can use your old ones) further allowing you to play some old favorites OR every unit is new and the old set is retired completely. Either way this retirement will happen.

I may be mostly angry at the fact that this was suddenly released information and said it would help people like me. How? How does this help me at all?
It helps you on a couple of levels for competative play
1. You do not have to drop that $60 to buy Kenny M, or the $45 for the arrow 4 from ebay.
2. Some of the Power units were LE's from the earlier sets, or uniques from some of the earlier sets, this limits their shelf life.
3. It has internal checks and balances. If a uber unit comes out, in 2 years it will be retired. (long term view)
4. With the introduction of new sets (about feb 2005 at the earliest) you will get new game mechanics (how about move and shoot for mechs, ways to limit some of artillery, merc formations, new SE's) all without having to try ot have a major overhaul of the current rules set. All without having to have a FAQ that is bigger than the current rule book.
5. It means that you will have the same unit availabilty that everyone has w/out having to drop the $$$$$$$. (leveling the playing field by making the same gene pool of units)
6. It makes it easier for you to be fammiliar with the dials of a limited number of sets. making you a better player.
And lastly 7. This keeps the company growing, and afloat. So as a new player, if you like the game, it helps to have a game to play eh?
And on a couple for collection reasons
1. Since this has been announced there is a buyers market for stuff on ebay. If you find a unit for your collection, you can get it cheaply. (It won't last long though)

I will still have one guy bring Arnis and a couple of Heli's. Another will bring in some artillery. And yet another will bring in Tank Drop from Hades. All units from LI and CA of course. While myself being the newest player at my venue generally does well using some nice older units. From Erin Jonston to Derek, even some SMI destroyers and such. I can use these units not because they are power units but because they are what I have. But when this comes out I guess I will have to go back to my 2 Targe unit and hope no one gets too angry at me for playing that cheese.
And you are playing cheese?]
You are right people will play these. And what happens when arnis is retired? The best tank drop is FFE. And to reiterate.... we do not know what is coming out in FP or the set after do we? Were you planning to get FP? Then what has actually changed? Nothing. Except your perception of events (which I think is wrong)

Really when all is said and done the ones this helps the least is the ones WK likes to say it is doing this for. I hate people feeding me lines like that. So I will find a computer game and wait till summer when I can go out and play some real games. And then Fall for football season. GO PANTHERS!!!!
Too bad. You will miss out on some exciting changes. BTW Go Bears.
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
I QUIT MTG FOR THE SAME REASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You just don't get it. And this is probably a wate of time, but I'll try.
1) If I decide to go play one night. And since I know that a venue has a regularly scheduled game on such and such day at 6:00 PM I show up with my army for an unrestricted( which I rarely play in) with all my old favorite Banned/Retired units. Well there's a screw up on the WK's site and that game is a regular HtH. I'm screwed!!! I can't use what I brought. So they might as well just say you can't use them anytime or any place. They no longer have any value for play!
2) In your area you might have unrestricted and a BM that runs them plus players that will show up. But not everyone will be so lucky. Again all the Banned/Retired pieces will no longer have any value for play.
The whole idea of using them in unrestricted is a joke. The reason I have them was to be able to use them when I Wanted. Otherwise I woudn't have even bothered with the game.
Prize support is what brought the game this far! Whether or not you like it that's a FACT! If there were none the game would never come this far.
The whole thing will not make it easier for new players. The deep pocketed players/Cheese Mongers/traveling BM's will always have the power pieces no matter what set.
It's a money thing and that's it! WK's wants us to spend more. I'm not!
NO TO WK ON RETIREMENTS. THIS IS A TERRIBLE REWARD FOR FAITHFUL CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE SPENT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS ON YOUR PRODUCTS. UNHAPPY MECHWARRIOR PLAYER.
NO.
I dont care what wizkids says, even if i could play my figures in "unofficial" games with friends and that is better for the game in the long run and all that ####, no one will keep my SC Nova away from the tournaments!!!
(and all the hundreds of dollars i've spent in DA, FFE etc. for that matter)
But WK should carrefully prepare the retirment. And the new environment, it could be great as i could be their doom.
All of us should try to cool down a little, I've read to many ill comments on one another and on WK emplyees, wich is very bad.
I play for fun not for tournament. Not saying that I don't like to win or playing at tournaments but I will play the game for fun (that means with every single unit I got).
And btw like adorability told it more than once, nobody knows wich pieces are gonna be retired and the amount of them. It could be 20% or 80%, we just don't know. And I suspect Wk don't know yet.
As a wich I would like the new base set starters to be sorted by faction/clan/house, this will help new players start a faction more easier :-)

Unrestricted events are non-competetive games. They are essentially a just for fun game with friends. They are irrelevent. They new they couldn't say you couldn't use them in unrestricetd because it wouldn't work.

And this is wizkids fault you did not actually check with your venue. This is their fault becase you did not make a 30 second phone call before hand? Or you did not ask your venue/bm the last time you played?

You are very correct. When you wanted. If the event does not support what you want well I guess that event just has to change to what you wanted right? How about campaign events that demand you have certain factions, or certain make ups... did you boycott them too?

That is quite correct. do you know how many unrestricted events will be run when this retirement takes place? No you cannot look at the past 6 months, because it doesn't hold water. The previous 6 months set retirement was not an issue, so it is comparing apples to oranges. we honestly DONT know how many unrestricted prize supported events will happen do we? So there could be 2 a month with wizkids supported prize support. or there could be none, but we don't know. Is the prize that important to you? (It isn't to me, I prefer bragging rights) If it is there are many ways to hvae the Prize for unrestricted from everyone. But I guess that is too easy... and it isn't the point.

You are very correct. But wait. If the new players don't hvae to shell out $60 for Kenny, or the $40 for the arrow 4, or the $35-40 for Arnis, they have better chances because no one will have them when they are retired. They will only have to worry about the units in the last 4 sets to be competative. So a new player who picks up the next base set gets a fighting chance.

Lets see... were you willing to buy FP before this? So how exactly is this about more money if you were already going to buy this???

Couple things i disagree with here...
First off, campaign events are not "faction pure", are they? You can easily borrow a piece from a friend who may have one, or buy a single for 50 cents. If you don't have the pieces, then yes, you "boycott" them, by not going. Also, comparing army makeups is different than banning entire sets from tourny play in those events.
Secondly... The new players will still have to shell out 40$ for the new power piece, that will inevitably be in the next set. And once THAT one cycles out, they'll have to spend 40$ on the NEW power piece.
If you haven't noticed, the only real power pieces are in the latest 2 sets. They would be able to justify the cycling of units out if there were older power pieces that were still better than the newer ones. Merc sniper < Kenny < SS Towed AA arty < SS arrow4 < whatever comes out in the next set. What the players are angry about are the units that they personally like and from thier faction. A newer player can get a formation of DF atvs with a SC and a BR Mjolnir and with an arrow4 , which could easily outclass my highlander purifiers, LE Koshi, HL Long Tom, and HL Trikes, but my army suits me becuae it's faction pure and i've accumulated it over time. If a newbie comes in at any givin time, he can get the pieces from the newest set and still have a very competitive army.

Okay, i missed a whole bunch of stuff here that i will, erm, "comment" on.
Like i said in the post before this one, uber units are being "retired" as the best when the next set comes out because there are even better units in the new sets.
As for comment "#7", does that mean they're just going to cycle players? When the new cycle starts, throw all the old players into the recycling, look a new batch of players, who cares about those old ones!
What has actually changed? I'd say that it's the notion that in 2 years the units that i buy from FP will be useless.
